Car Seat Protection

Happy New Year Team. I'll be picking up my 21 Sport 4x4 next month, and I really dont want to put seat covers on, since I really like the seats. However, I have a little one, and need to put her car seat in the back. I'm contemplating just putting a rear cover on the bench, but is anyone using a simple "car seat protector" pad or something/ I found a couple generic ones from Target, but just wanted to put the question out there.

I have a cheapo car seat protector under my boy's car seat. It seems to be ok. I like the flap that hangs towards the floor that helps keep mud off the bottom of the rear seat (plus it has 2 mesh pockets for the matchbox cars he loves to bring along.)
I also have a full rear seat cover and had it on first, but after a few times of taking the car seat in and out it was a big PITA trying to fight the full cover where it was tied on and the anchor latches.

 

That was my thought. all the really good covers seem to be a pain to put a car seat into. Looks like yours has pretty good coverage. Thanks.

 

I have done the single seat protectors before and they only help with the seat base causing damage. Your kid is still going to spill milk, juice, food and all sorts of stuff on it and it just falls off the side of the little cover and onto the seat.

I recommend getting a seat cover for the whole backseat, I got one designed for dogs and it worked great when my kids where in car seats. I usually put it in when going on road trips where the kids might spill things.

 

You make a good point. My girl does like her Cheez Its and juice boxes.

I got these from Amazon and they work great! Not only do they protect the material, but they have a solid thickness to them so when it comes time to remove the child seat you won't be left with dents into the seat cushion. Also got a generic set of seatback protectors from Target that cover the rears of the drivers and passengers seat.

I used the single seat cover in my taco and prius. Pretty effective over the last couple years...still get that seat indentation but it's clean.

I haven't had to battle milk/juice... But that's bc i only do water in the vehicles lol

Way easier cleanup for snacks though since they always fall through the carseat.

My Catahoula mix also helps keep it chip free

Oh, side note, they love kicking the shit out of the back of the front seats... I find most of my benefit from a protector there

I got seat covers (Bartact). They look so nice that I don't want to get them dirty so I kind of want seat covers for my seat covers!

Under my kids car seat I have the protectors shown above. They work ok, but I still get dents in my seat. Definitely smaller than would be there if I didn't have the protectors though.

For our 4runner, I got the carhartt seat covers just in the row with car seats. They are washable and I do that about once a year. Unfortunately the only colors they have are a medium to light colored gray and the carhartt brown. I like them quite a bit, just wish they had a black version.

I would also get something for the back of your front seats once the carseat is forward facing.

Ive been using these covers for 2 years, no rips, tears, or damage to them anywhere. My seats look perfect still with 2 kids in the back.

 

Kids can make one hell of a mess (no offence). Im still in high school and I currently work at a place where we detail vehicles and I hate watching minivans pull in because they are usually destroyed. I've had customers come up to me and say "don't have kids".

I would really recommend seat covers for the rear seat and for the backside of the driver and front passenger seats and maybe even the roof and the windows.

 

My kids (and wife) are pigs... if it were legal, they would all have to ride in the bed of the truck. At least then I could hose out their mess.

 

I’ve been searching for some kind of protector specifically for indentations. Not worried about a spill or mess (strict rules in daddy’s truck, I’d rather pull over take a stretch break and eat on the tailgate). But I just installed the front katzkins and haven’t done the rear yet because the 2 booster/front face seats leave indents in the bottom cushion and deeper on the backs. So I either leave the cloth and wait till not needed (but by that time the foam will probably be permanent) or find a solution/steam and bring back the foam form/install katzkin.

My wife's Sienna interior probably has enough cracker crumbs and dropped food to live off of for a week. No eating in my Taco lol. Seat indentations from a car seat only require something to spread the weight across a larger surface area. A piece of cardboard would probably work. I don't use anything, but only have a couple of booster seats in there. We don't take the truck much because the van is more comfortable with the family, plus the kids like to snack on car rides...
