Anyways i have a 3 fuel gallon rotopax and a 2 gallon water on the back of my pelfrey swingout. I went to get gas and realized the mounting stud sheared between the 2 mounts as i have an extender. I back tracked and found the water but my gas can is mia.
This happened before about 1 1/2 years ago but luckily as i was tightening it down so i caught it as it broke.
I contacted rotopax and emailed them some pictures and it seems like they will replace the mount but probably not the 90$ gas can. Thats kinda what i expected.
I am wondering if there are any alternative mounts for rotopaxs i think they are a good tough can but the mounting system is lacking.
I have seen rotopax debris on trails so i cant be the only one this has happened too. Putting 2 3 gallon cans and a 2 gallon water would be nice.

I sold mine, that thing would swell up so big that I couldn’t even turn the handle. And this was probably user error but I couldn’t even use it with out gas spraying everywhere. Note I had the fuel-pax not the rotopax.

I’ve seen that before. It’s not the best design to be hanging off the back of the bumper unsupported. You’re solely relying on the shear strength of a single threaded rod to keep you fuel/water mounted. On a previous swingout I built, I added a large L bracket, big enough to support the weight of the rotopax at you bounced down the road. That way the mount itself is only holding the cans horizontally to snug them against the bumper. All the weight would be supported by the L bracket like a shelf. It was a simple design that worked well for as long as I had it, but I now keep my rotos in the bed attached to the rails.

Oh man!!! This makes me laugh. I went to vent my rotopax after them being in direct sunlight on a not so hot day. Maybe low 70s anyways. It was so tight I couldn’t get the cap off easily. Kept trying at it and when I finally did it blew gas sky high into my face, truck, clothes, and surrounding plants. It was quite the sight! I have two 2 gallon rotopaxs.

I install my high clearance bumper here as soon as it gets back from the powder coater and might have to consider something different than rotopax back there on the swing

Same exact thing happen to me. So then I’m thinking open it slowly with the cap pointed directly up, pressure would release and then when I would tip it it would spray all over my bike again.

At least with the Rotopax you can attempt to slowly open to vent. The jerrycans I use have an all or nothing option. If only there were a valve to release pressure.

I’d recommend this. Same thing happened to me using 3 two gallon cans stacked a row. I moved down to 2 stacked and keep the other one on the bed rail. If I needed the 3 my plan was to do the L bracket so that the mount did not take any of the shear stress of the weight and only secured the cans.

An l bracket seems like a good plan

Any way to replace the fastener with something grade 8 or better?
