My 2005 Tacoma is stuck in park and my brake lights aren’t functioning. All the fuses are functioning and the brake switch is aswell. Does anyone know what else it could be? Thanks

you sure the brake light switch is functioning? cus both of those problems will be due to that.

You can get it out of park by lifting the lil cap by the shifter and pushing the button. wont fix your problem though.

Yep I’m sure, I put a new switch in to try to fix it and it did nothing.

can you make the brake lights work by manually activating the switch by hand?

No, the lights still don’t work. The way the switch works the lights should be on when the switch is up, not when the switch is pressed down anyway. Luckily I had all this happen at my auto school, but my teacher is stumped. We checked all the wires with a volt ohm meter and made sure they’re all good too. I’m just to the point where I don’t know what else it could possibly be.

Stop lamp circuit is pretty simple. Have you replaced the 10amp stop fuse? Should have 12v constant hot on the greeen white wire at the stop switch on the brake pedal. If you dont then your problem is between the fuse box and stop switch.

Yep the green wire was constantly hot and we checked the 10a stop fuse
The green wire was constantly hot and we checked both that fuze along with another that tied into that circuit and they both were good. We changed both fuses too and it still did nothing. We even tried bypassing the brake switch using a paper clip and it still did nothing.

pull all the bulbs out of the tail lights and cab light and see if you can shift outta park. could very well be a bad bulb shorting things out.

Hell just unplug one tail light at a time completely, then if you get to the point of both being unplugged and still not able to shift out of park pull the cab light.

Didn’t think of that, I’ll have to try that out tomorrow. I’ll let you know how it went. Thanks so much for the help though, I really appreciate it!

Check for power on Pin #2 (Green/White wire) of the stop light switch.
You need to have power to this pin at all times.

If you have power to that pin. It’s the switch, or the wiring to connector 1B

Checked the switch and have power through the green wire, not sure if we checked the wiring to connector 1b. I’ll add that to the list of things to check for tomorrow. Thanks!

Yep, I checked every single fuze in both the fuze box under the hood and below the steering wheel. All are good.

This had me in a short panic while in an alley working on my trailer lights while getting my mower serviced. I blew the brake fuse and could not shift out of Park. I got outa there after replacing the brake light fuse. Then I learned about the switch underneath the shift lever tab that gets it out of Park also. Gosh, I hope you are okay.
