Interesting, it does look curved. I know one of the last things put on mine was that very piece. It seemed like they made that “apron” interchangeable with the doors, like all the gens may have the same rear door size, just that apron above the tailgate gets matched to each Gen tailgate

 

@SuperRAD, any chance you'd have time to measure the total height from the very top of the X1 to where it meets the bedrails so that I could triple check that this measurement added onto my taco would fit into my garage?

 

It should be 28.6”

 

I believe it will technically fit, but it's not recommended as it will decrease your cab clearance by about .5" which could be a risk to hitting if the bed flexes.

 

hey everyone, I've been driving so I haven't had the chance to respond here but I'll try and answer any questions I can.

Measuring from the top of the cab to the bottom of the tent section is about 2.5" at the cabs highest point, I've included photos of this area. I have stock bed rails on my truck. The overall height of the camper from the top of the camper to where it rests on the bedrails is 28.6".

As far as the tailgate seal goes, that piece is an interchangeable metal flange w/ bulb seal on it. The metal flange is held onto the camper door via 5 allen head screws. So the way I understood it is that the camper I have will fit 1st, 2nd or 3rd gen long beds & that all I will need do is switch out this metal flange piece and voila! tailgate seal is fitted.

The reason mine looks funny and rounded is because the one that is currently on my camper is the one designed for the 3rd gen Tacomas. I was told they have the 2nd gen ones coming in next week and they would ship me one. Apparently the 2nd gen flange is flat and actually extends down over and in front of the tailgate unlike this 3rd gen one which rest on top of the tailgate rail when closed. I'll be happy to send out some pictures of that once I receive the 2nd gen flange and install it. I think I would be doing a disservice by providing any more of this one, seeing as how it is not the correct one for this truck.

You'd think the dark gray would be closer to MGM than silver. There is a good pic of dark gray/MGM on page 71. It looked pretty good.

nice, that is good feedback. I figured they had some changes coming and that may be the case here. The overhang as you noted I have seen on others and make sense.

Thank you for the measurements. can you tell me the distance from the tent to the cab but on each side? I want to see how much room I have for my rack. I will be modifying it but want to see if I can utilize more mounting points with some ideas or have to chop it off and use a stubby setup in front like vagabond setups.

I was talking to someone in here about bike mounting in the bed. So update!
Got my fork mount situation sorted out. Drilled out the composite and popped a couple rivnuts into the flat steel thing underneath the composite. Removable in seconds if it’s in the way of doing any real truck stuff. I’m pretty impressed that I didn’t screw it up.

 

Did the same exact thing with my ARE MX but found that it will give you more room and ease of loading two bikes if you slightly angle the fork mounts causing the bars to swivel a bit (30 degree offset). This is especially beneficial if you only have one bike in the back since you can move the rear tire as close to the side as possible and the front of the bike(assuming a 6' bed) will have less limitation from the handlebar. I twisted the bars outward near the topper side and rear door as much as possible. Since I don't know the wheelbase of your bike this might be a limitation. I did the bed mount for a 29er medium frame cross country dual suspension Scott Spark RC.

 

Installed insulation and carpet in hatch and doors today. Tomorrow flooring for 80/20 cabinet install.

 

How did you attached the insulation and carpet to the panels?

 

The angle idea is great, thanks for letting me know before I drilled holes! Ha. There’s definitely room for 2 more bikes if I’m so inclined. It’s a long bed so 29r fits no problem but this bike is a Santa Cruz Bronson 27.5.

 

Double sided carpet tape and Gorilla double side tape. The 1/2” insulation helps a lot when it’s pressed into the area but small pieces of the tape in various areas on the panels helps in keeping it secure. I used 3M super 77 adhesive to glue carpet to insulation.

Once the insulation is in place and you try and shut the doors. The insulation will have to be fine tuned/cut in areas where it creases because of the outer rain gutters on the fuselage. You can see a crease on one of the side pieces in the middle photo. I cut that area and also cut same area when the carpet was glued in place on the insulation.

 

How long does it typically take for super pacific to respond? I’ve been trying to give them my money.
