i've googled the typical symptoms/signs but wanted to know if there are any tacoma specific ones?

i changed my struts in the front over the summer but still get a good amount of clunking and metal on metal type of sense!

Clunking sounds like ball joints to me. Did you get an alignment after swapping out the shocks?

My lower control arms would “thunk” when the bolts got loose. Never heard them sound like metal on metal. Unless your bushings are completely shot?

When does it make the noise?
In turns, when taking off, or braking?

It makes noise on medium to hard bumps or potholes
