Anyone find a fix for this? My 2012 AC seat belt is wet after heavy rains too. I've been pulling the belt out and looping it over the shifter to dry out when parking the day after, helps with the moldy/sour smell. Thanks

Any final fix on this one? I'm having the same issue on my 12 Tacoma, double cab. Wet driver side seatbelt after rain.

I haven't found a fix yet but it does seem to help if I park the truck with the nose up rather than down.

I tend to suspect the area where both doors meet at the top, I looked into replacement gaskets once but never pulled the trigger.

I need to try something my truck is smelling like crap. I'm going to try the silicone on the OEM roof rack screws to see if that helps. If not, there will be a taco for sale....

Mine was really bad when I bought it used.
First thing when I got home that day I reeled the belt out as far as it would go, clamped it with a vise grip, and got a 5 gal bucket of hot water, soap, and lysol and scrubbed.
Toweled off what I could and left a fan on it overnight. Not a fix, but it helped a great deal.

Silicone on the OEM roof rack screws did the trick... no more wet seatbelt

My 2019 Tacoma full cab does it two or three times in last year, after heavy rain. Seems to be in the cab lower position.

"Leak Lock" on the roof rack screws took care of the problem for me.

I finally bought new OEM door gaskets for the drivers side and put them on, now waiting for a heavy rain to see if it helped.

Mine being an access cab it doesn't have the factory screws on top for the roof rack, so nothing to seal there for me.

Update: had a few heavy rains, seems to be dry around the seat belt. I think the OEM gasket replacement worked (knocks wood).

I have an 03 Tacoma and this has been happening at my drivers side seatbelt as well, off and on for the awhile now too. I feel like I am seeing a hairline crack of sorts at the top right of where the door meets the body, where the weatherstripping ends there. Or my eyes are seeing things. No rack nothing on my truck, the mystery continues...

    I believe I have a solution.

I have an '05 Tacoma access cab and have recently been experiencing the same issue of a wet driver side seatbelt after a hard rain, particularly when parked on a side slope with the driver side sitting a bit lower than the passenger side, resulting in most of the water from the roof shedding off over the driver side doors. After finding the seatbelt wet again at the end of a work day, I decided to pull into the garage and do some investigation.

I removed the access door handle cover to get a look inside the door and was able to clearly see water drops on the sheetmetal inside the door, just above the seatbelt real. Working my way up, I found the water getting in at the very top of the access door, where the weatherstripping clips into 4 holes on the top edge of the door. After closer inspection, I could see that the weatherstripping has a strip that used to be adhered to the door, just above those holes, presumably to prevent just this problem (pictures attached). Rather than replace the weatherstripping, I dried out the weatherstripping with a heat gun and wiped it clean, applied black silicone above the attachment holes and pressed the weatherstripping into it. I then shut the door and left it closed in the garage overnight. I did the same thing to the passenger side as well.

I drove to work in the morning and parked it in the exact same spot on the side slope, as before. It rained hard that day and at the end of the day I found my seatbelt dry. So it seems this has solved the problem. Hopefully this simple fix solves the issue for you too!

Nice work and thanks for the pics and write up. I'm gonna try this first if my passenger side starts leaking.

Sure beats the $100 or so I spent on the new OEM weatherstrips for the driver's side.

    also, Welcome to Tacoma world!

I encountered this issue for the first time today, thanks for all the info. Once it dries out I have my fix thanks to the Tacomaworld hive mind.

you know guys I'm right there with you I got a 2000 Toyota Tacoma prerun it's do the same thing I get into my truck and I go to pull my seatbelt it's like a damn seatbelt underwater no I also have an extra cab which means a door seal shouldn't be putting water into that seat belt which is part of the extra cab which has its own panel now there is a little window fin and I did check the seal around that it looks solid I do have a rack but the rack is not bolted to the cabin anyway it's bolted to the truck bed my plan is I'm going to have my little 8 year old spray hose all over the side of the truck while I'm inside of it with with the panel off and I'm going to look for water now if you don't have a kid shoved in a toolbox then you can use a sprinkler would do just fine good luck PS keep in mind there are wires underneath the floor matting and the sidewalls so I recommend disconnecting the battery cable

My 2012 Toyota Tacoma's driver's side seat belt will be wet after a big rainstorm. The seatbelt was not on the outside of the truck. The truck has no after-market modifications. Has anyone solved this mystery. The last entry in this thread was from 2019.

Dane, if you go back a few posts it looks like a solution was found. Interesting how many people have this issue! I know for me it is a pain when it happens.
