It WAS kind of a dragged out process. I should have just left in December!! Done it all in one day. Oh well they were paying me, so not a bad way to go, so to speak.

Evening folks. Congrats on the retirement Paul. Keep busy, do what the wife lets you do , and just enjoy life to the fullest. We leave tomorrow morning on a road trip. Stopping in Williamsburg, VA to visit an old friend who just lost her husband to dementia, the off to Camp Lejune to spend a few days with our Grand daughter while her husband is on deployment, then it's off to get some oranges  and spend some time in (hopefully warmer than here )Florida in Vero Beach. Retirement is great.

I had the same exit strategy from my last job as well Mike. Felt good letting them know how I felt.

Mark, just a ? here -- how can your wife get the vaccine from the VA? -- it is because of you guyts being on Tri-care? ( I think thats what they call it).
My wife has been asking --just take me along when/if you get the vaccine from the VA. I keep telling her -- I don't think that is possible.

Interesting -- I had absolutely NO REACTION to the shingles vaccine. Maybe it was because I had a mild case of it about 16 yrs ago , or because of all of the shots I used to get many decades ago while flying over some ? able areas over SEA. I really think all of these crazy shots years ago maybe helping me later on in my old age??

A little something every chance we get.
Congrats Paul! Enjoy starting now! Insurance is the hardest part, so nail that down, then the rest is just adjustments. Our best choice was for me to pay to upgrade the wife's insurance for a year, then I went to Medicare at 65. Which is a bargain, honestly. The Gov has a great website to help you when you get there.

And I frustrated myself all day in the garage over ONE "door"! That's retirement. There's always tomorrow, because ain't nothing going anywhere!

Oddly I never have a reaction to vaccines. But the first Shingrix shot made my left arm hurt like crazy for a couple days. The second shot, no reaction.

Doubtful. I had all of those same shots when flying over Southeast Asia in 1970.

No, sorry if I made it seem like she could. She can't - which is why I won't get it there. I won't get it until we both can. We are now on Tricare For Life which really pretty much covers our medications - we still have to carry both Medicare Parts A & B.

I have so many questions and everything is closed for ss. I can register online and do the part a b thing but my insurance , 401, etc is gonna suck. I’ll need to cobra my insurance I think since Carol has always been on mine. She has two years to go and with our combined health issues getting her insurance alone would be unattainable. Need to text my little HR sweetie after I start this and have her get the asshole in corporate to get the info to me. I’m not looking forward to this at all.

    Good morning, all!!

Congrats on the retirement, Paul!! Sounds like you are tackling the decision process in fine order and are focused on enjoying this new phase of life. I'm 6 months into it and still not totally adjusted....but loving the newfound freedom and the lack of stress. Life is, truly, good.

Ken - nice collection there!! Woodford and Basil Hayden's are among my favorites. I stuck with Gin last night and Lynn and I both enjoyed a few drinks made with Gunpowder Irish Gin. Given your wife's heritage, you should add it to your bar. Probably one of my top two favorites in Gin.

    Good Morning folks.
New roof is on:amen:. They started ripping the old roof at 7:30 and were done by 3:30. 5 guys, working together and they cleaned up exceptionally well. Went around with a wheeled magnet for nails, but I still have to watch for a stray one or two.
Trying to get your ducks in a row for retirement can be something of a chore. I had already signed up for and was on Medicare so I had no need to work on that. My pension and SSI were the only concerns as I have medical insurance from my original employer(worked for an auto body parts manufacturer the E.G. Budd Co.[they closed up shop altogether in 2005]) who supplied my benefits. It was about the only thing the union did that was for the workers. I just hope that you can work it all out to your benefit Mike. Hang tough and stay the course. Hope that you can get a good medical plan for you and the wife to go with medicare.

Mark that gin looks interesting. I’m off in search of some later today. I usually reserve gin drinks for the warm summer months but now I have a hankering for some refreshing gin. Being a history buff I’ve read the history of gin. Rather interesting. Gin is what sustained the British during their era of colonialism. They drank it with quinine as an anti malarial concoction. During the 30 year war British soldiers got “Dutch Courage “ from drinking gin. I’ll just leave it there. Thanks for the suggest Mark.

I like to think with a positive frame of mind it helps this old fart get through these trying times.
What were you flying on back then?. I was on one of 6 RC-135M's 3-5 times a months over the northern Gulf of Tonkin, or over Northern Laos.
This is what they looked like back then -- now these same 6 planes have been redone/re-engined to serve on as RC-135W's This particular shot is of tail number ...4132. The second link is the SAME aircraft as it looks today. Inside the plane -- I have been inside the current version while attending a reunion at Offut AFB --they are waaay different inside -- Sorry no photos of the inside -they asked us not to.

Not a pilot. I rode in the back of an Husky mostly. Sometimes a Huey.

Pilot -- not me either-- I was an AMT (Airborne Maint. Tech.) I was a member of the 6990th Security Sq. based at Kadena AFB Okinawa. Our missions usually lasted 19-21 hours with one air refuel. Ask me how long it took the "Habu" to do a mission down to the same area all while slowing down to get 2 (maybe 3) refuels, and be back at Kadena! Their hanger was just across the taxi-way from our flightline shop.

Good morning, everyone!!! Another chilly one here in northeast PA - 13 out on the porch and still dropping - but not as bad as it could be. Not much planned for today - too cold to work outside or in the garage so, heck, I guess I'll just chill out. I've been trying to get my butt onto the treadmill at least three times a week - today looks like a good day to spend some time there. Lynn gave me a set of Air Pod Pros for Christmas - they are awesome. I stream Sirius Classic Vinyl while I'm on the treadmill and rock out. :D

Be safe and enjoy the day!!
