    Hello everyone!

I recently purchased a 1995 taco xtracab. I’m in the process of restoring it, but want to put a more up to date radio in, as I really only listen to BT audio.

I purchased a dual radio, and a ‘95-‘14 harness (has 4 different connectors, all separate) and begun wiring everything up. When I was removing the old head unit, this wire came loose:EB88C99D-2878-44C0-9073-D7E313687B44.jpg from this plug:
    FE67E2B1-F94F-45B0-9B50-C3DCDC36F634.jpg
I figured it was for the tape player, but nevertheless I finished temporarily wiring things up with wire nuts to make sure I had the connections right (I plan on soldering, and heat shrinking the harness together)

well, when it came time to test the system, no dice. Radio won’t come on at all. I double, and triple checked the wiring to make sure I got everything matched up per the instructions on both the radio, and the wiring adapter, and still nothing.

so the question I have now, is what do I need to connect this wire to so that I can have my radio back?

also, I tried connecting the OEM radio back up, and it will no longer turn on either. Checked fuses, and none were blown.

    thanks in advance!

I think your wire is the constant 12VDC and you’ll need to connect that back up.

There’s nowhere on the back of the new head h it to connect the wire though, and I believe that the 12VDC constant was already wired up. It looks yellow with a green runner, or maybe it’s white with a green one. It’s so old I can’t tell

The smaller blue Plug the wires would go to rear speakers if your truck has them.

The gray wire is the switched power wire .Have you tested that.

How long has the Truck been sitting ??

I ran into one the truck side plug was corroded unseen by the naked eye.

Things checked fine by the Meter when plugged in would not work drove me about crazy

so this truck has storage compartments where the rear speakers would go, so I’m not sure on that one. Greg should be hooked up correctly, but I’ll have to go recheck that.

it was sitting for about 7 years, being driven every few weeks.

what is this truck side plug you mentioned?

If the plug being corroded is the issue, what would be the best route to fix that? New plug, or just go cutting and splicing (making sure to leave enough slack of course)

I don’t have a meter to test anything, but I think I have a test light at work. It won’t be until tomorrow evening I could get that though

I’ll have to figure out where to get it, currently going through Texas’ snowpacolypse LOL

I’ve always worked without a meter, most of the time still with live wires. Means I’m more careful with where I put my diddlers and wires. Probably not the best way of course, but it’s how I was taught by my father, and other electricians in the area.

I’ll keep in touch with how it goes, just have to wait for the snow/ice/sleet/rain to stop :boink:

Just get a meter man. You’d be done troubleshooting already if you had one.
