I would love some opinions from those who know better than I. Is it normal to start seeing what looks like rust to me on a 10 day old new Tacoma? I bought this 21 on 12/30 and live in South FL so no snow and it hasn't even seen rain yet. No off road yet either. I know rust is common on tacos later on in life but after 10 days?

It's normal for Toyota . You can wire brush it and spray some black paint if you like . Hi welcome and good luck .

You're not going crazy. It's highly likely that your truck spent at least a month getting to you. Who knows what weather it was subjected to during its journey? As the other posters mentioned, you can clean it up and paint it to help slow further rust. I would recommend POR-15 as it sticks better than glue, and actually prevents rust from forming. A PITA to apply though--with a brush--and once dry it is impervious to any chemical that tries to remove it. You have to sand it off.

My understanding if the truck was made in Mexico, these vehicles are loaded onto mass vehicle transport sea barges and sent up the ocean to California and the other over to Florida, is that correct? Are they open air and would be subject to high salt spray and humidity?

I had bought my Texas made 17 Sport up here in Calgary, Canada and had the dealership undercoat it. I noticed rust on the welds after the first year. Last summer, 3rd year, I couldn’t stand it any longer and bought a sand blaster and over one weekend I crawled under the truck and sand blasted all the rust off and sprayed an etching primer on. The next weekend I brushed on the POR 15 paint. It looked great!

Normal for every vehicle. Those parts, flash rust immediately.

Most of those surfaces are bare metal so yes. The leaf springs expand, contract, move up and down so much the paint cracks and rust forms so it’s normal. And some of that rust could also be from rock chips

As for the thick suspension components, they're not going to rust through. But, defintely put some antiseize on any bolt threads you take off before putting back on, especially underneath the truck.

I would post pics like the OP's of my 1.5 yr old Taco, but some of you would recoil in disgust. Rust belt owner here lol.
Rust Check (very similar to Fluid Film) every fall. Touch ups as necessary.
