Replacement BRZ tweeter fitment into tacoma dash

These are larger and have a bigger magnet

 

Just get the kicker ones they sound great .

 

Do the Kickers really make a difference or is it just "new part syndrome"?

 

Why in the world would someone spend time having to cut up their dash to put $40 "mids"? The subaru tweeters are plug and play, no cutting, and if you don't like them you simply can return them and put your truck back to stock. If your local shop has techs that think this is acceptable..... Good grief. Avoid at all costs.

 

Search for "kicker tweeters tacoma" if what you read in here isn't enough to convince you they make a difference from stock.

 

Or just be like one of the guys on the Titan forum I still follow. He bolted two 6" tweeters straight into the middle of the dash LOL.

 

I'm old and ignorant. Is there a difference between the "Subaru" tweeters and the 2-3/4" Kicker speakers? If so, what?
What's the deal with the included capacitors? How do they fit into the installation?
These are so small that a 2-way version must not be available. Are we giving up anything on the high end frequencies?

 

The subaru tweeters are a direct swap no cutting or soldering, also i believe its more highs than mids. The kicker 2 3/4" speakers are more mids and will require some modifications

 

Does anyone know what size the actual subaru tweeter is? Maybe a 1.5"?

 

Couple things. Our trucks tweeters have built in filters. That's what the capacitors do. The Subi ones have the same thing so they are plug and play especially so because of the exact connector and set up for the wiring in our trucks. If you change tweeters to say a component setup, you need to change the wiring form the HU (or amp) to the front doors and tweeters. It's been a year since I did my stereo but I believe our wiring from the HU to the tweeters is a series connection. You can see this if you disconnect the tweeter and that same side speaker will not play. Most component systems use a parallel wiring and a separate crossover. I remember making a cut or 2 to the existing wiring in the kick panel somewhere and splicing it to another wire in the speaker/ tweeter array. I used Alpine x series components with a small Alpine amp tucked behind my climate control. Changed other things too but that doesn't matter for this thread.

 

I used these to install my Alpine tweeters. The cut out is 2" but that was for the Alpine tweeter.

The dimensions for that I think are the box it comes in. I do think I remember someone saying it was a 1.5" tweeter but that doesn't mean the entire housing is that dimension. just the "cone" itself

 

Yes i was just looking for speaker/cone size not the over all dimensions (including mount)
