I have mixed feelings about this show. I'm noticing that many of the older Trek fans are also not too happy with it either. The whole Data "friendship" thing wasn't like Kurk and Spock's but that's how they make it seem like it was. I also don't need lens flares in every other shot. The overdone UFC style fighting when you have a phaser that stuns .

 

Agree! I thought that about the lens flare about half way through. I think it’s the Bad Robot influence. They also have site-to-site transporters to escape danger!

 

So...I watched "the Man Trap" tonight.

Synopsis- A shape-changing, salt-craving, color-blind alien wrecks havoc on the crew, final tally: 2 blue shirts, 1 yellow shirt, 1 yellow vest tech guy, 1 civilian, and 3 near misses (Kirk, Spock, and Uhuru).

Comments- undoubtedly the episode with highest body count without a single red shirt among the victims.

So...I watched "Elaan of Troyius" tonight.

Synopsis- It's the taming of the shrew in outer space as the Enterprise transports a wildcat she-thing to an interstellar marriage. Mayhem ensues when Kirk is bewitched, the ship is sabotaged, and those sneaky Klingons come a callin'. The day is saved when the ever-resourceful crew restores warp drive from a piece of jewelry.

Comments- One of the favorite plot devices of the 'ships in space' genre is employed- aliens compromising the ever-woefully unguarded critical systems. Jeeeesh…won't these guys ever learn to adequately safeguard their most essential systems??

always a trekkie. TOS, TNG, and just finished DISCO. Seen every movie and PICARD. Wasn't a huge enterprise or voyager fan but watched them anyway. I agree, seeing Bakula after quantum leap hurt enterprise. bring on the trek babes...

 

This episode would probably be banned today because Kirk bitch-slaps her when she starts acting "uppity".

As far as the new Star Trek shows:

I gave up on Discovery after about 4 episodes. Just ughhh.

I made it all the way through Picard, but it also was pretty poor IMO.

And the JJ Abrams movies lost me after their transporter basically negated the need for starships at all.

 

Gotta say it's lost a bit of it's luster for me. I'm in the middle of Discovery now and it's kinda getting better.

With all the time at home I might as well watch it all.

I'm only 2 episodes into Discovery... trying to proceed.

 

I have yet to watch Discovery. I'm not paying for another subscription service to watch it.

 

JMO, but Discovery is not worth the cost of the electrons fired at your screen to display the images.

I have heard that it got better around season 3, but after the few episodes I attempted to watch I think a bonus track on a Yoko Ono album would have been better.

 

I have been a Star Trek fan since I was a kid watching The Original Series in my bedroom on a portable B&W set.

 

Honestly you are correct. I've watched evey Star trek episode made. Discovery was hard to finish a few seasons. It's basically star wars now. No exploration, just action.
