Was it the Tacoma one? The drill bit took some time to get through just 1/2 inch.

I really want to get my hands on a scrap mat now. The scientist in me would love to test it. There are videos all over the place of people who will rip a gun safe off its anchor bolts using just body weight and enough room to rock it like a vending machine. I bet I could get a fender washer to pass through that mat with all the leverage and freedom afforded to me within the confines of a short bed.

Lol take a razor knife and it cuts easily.
The one I cut was a Tacoma long bed and I cut it to fit a short bed. Took five minutes which is four minutes longer than cutting around your bolt and washer.

There is about 2 inches of solid rubber from the bolt to the end of the mat. Yeah it would be a good thing to test, but I bet it would hold maybe a half ton.

Lol they are very abrasion resistant and skid resistant. It is absolutely not cut resistant and he musta used a the dullest bit ever. It drills easy but you have to wallow the bit to clean out the hole.

It was a titanium bit but it could have been dull. It was still just rubber and after the bit went through I figured there would be a nice hole but no it self sealed and I had to work that bolt through. And it was just a 1/4" hole.

Rubber does that. I learned this years and years ago when I drilled a hold through a rubber stopper. The rubber just deforms out of the way and doesn't actually shear. You're good man

Well it will still stop someone without a knife from taking it, so I am happy. I could put some steel cable through it and I was thinking about that but it might just not be worth the time. The only problem now is when I need to take it out I need to get a helper to hold the allen wrench so I can go under the truck.

I kind of was thinking that going into it and was looking for a way to punch a hole in it. I have a leather punch but it doesn't let me get 2 inches in. And I was thinking about melting it. But just making the hole with the drill gave me a place to line the bolt up with the hole, so it worked out good.

Yes. You need a 1/4" drill and a block of wood and drill a hole in the mat from under and then put a stainless steel bolt and fender washers and a nylock nut on. It works and now people can't just walk off with it and it won't blow out and the car wash machines won't ruin it.

That's a good idea. Maybe if I take it our I will do that. I am sure I can find some tubing in the right size laying around. Thanks!

I am wondering if this thread is pin worthy. I mean bed mats cost 129 dollars if you have the dealer do the installation . 80lb Mats being stolen could be the next big thing. I mean what if he parked near a gym. An ex gym rat tweeker could take the mat without this mod.
