Also worth checking out Mod Wars – USB charger blocking Ham Radio Communication, just to be aware of RFI created by other devices and how it can interfere with a mobile rig.

Icom 2730a (2m, 70cm) allegedly can be modded for GMRS and FRS
Head is under driver seat, mic extension with plug installed in center console by seatbelt. Faceplate held on by sticky velcro.
I can unplug the face and tuck the wire into the cubby, unplug mic and You'd never know it was there. Other than the fender mount antenna
