I pulled out my WeatherTech mats yesterday to clean them and I noticed oil on them. As I looked underneath, I could see what appears to be oil or brake fluid on the metal bracket and on the electrical connector on the bottom. Has anybody had a similar issue to this? The dealer wants to charge me $149 just to look at it and give me an estimate since I am out of warranty.

I think the brake booster on the offroad is a hydraulic system (instead of vacuum like most). My guess is that the seal on the piston going from the pedal to the booster blew out.

Check your brake fluid level, pump the brakes really hard while parked and see if anything is leaking into the cab.

Also, if its brake fluid, you need to get it cleaned off the paint ASAP as it will eat the paint right off the truck.

It's not DIY to replace, it requires proper bleeding, adjustment of the booster and pedal.

It's a master cylinder for sure, but be ready for a big bill.

I have to ask. What is so different about Toyota brakes from others that they require special skills to install a master cylinder? It's a PIA job I'll agree.

He has a trd offroad, so its got a electronic brake system (for crawl control) If it was any other model (other than pro) it would be easier

Nothing really, Just depends on your skills. If you resort to YouTube for any maintenance, then it’s probably not a job you should tackle...;)

Thanks guys, I've changed brakes, brake cylinders, brake lines, calipers, and even a brake booster on my old K5 blazer, just never seen a leak in the cab.

I have the same problem . The dealer wants to charge me $2166 for the repair and another $179.00 for the brake switch. I have a 2017 or.

What's your plan? If the dealer changes it, u should post a parts list.

    These are the main parts:
4702504120 Brake Actuator; which is around $1000
    8434069025 brake switch
Warranty expired so it won't be covered.
I'm going to see if i can find a reputable shop that can replace these parts for cheaper.

    EDIT:
I might just bite the bullet and pay the dealership. I think this issue is affecting my electronics.

Curious, is this also the case for the 6MT OR despite the lack of crawl control, etc?

Yes, the A-TRAC system uses the same Electronic Booster/MC.

I worked at a junk yard for a few years, Chevy had a hydro boost system that required you to remove the dash to take it out. That was a pain in the ass... we didnt like to sell the hydro boost systems till more of the trucks got dismantled so we had less crap to remove when trying to get to the hydro boost.

I have a spot about the size of a dime in my truck. At $2166, I'll just keep an eye on it.

Surprised this isn’t a recall or TSB. Master cylinder should outlast the life of the vehicle in most cases, and could be a safety issue if left unaddressed.
