Increasing power

So we just picked up a 2021 taco sr5. I just ordered a lift and wheels and tires. I’m assuming I’m gonna lose some power by putting bigger tires on. What have you guys done to regain or add power? I’m trying not to spend a ridiculous amount of money but would like to make up for loss of power. Thanks!

Just for clarification for the OP...most people regear there diffs. Not the trans.

Most agree its a waste.

 

Cheap power is going with a $500 nitrous system.
A little bit of spray hurt nobody....

What lift and tires are you planning on running?

 

No difference in power, this is a well designed cold air intake. Better sound though and you might get a slightly better throttle response.

It makes a difference on some vehicles, but definitely not on this taco. The air box is the same as Tundra's.

Tune is the best band for your buck IMO, I am very happy with mine. Feels like the truck has 20% more power and mpgs are the same or better.

What size tires? Regearing is the best solution, but it’s expensive and may not be really necessary if you are going from a 265/70R16 to a 265/70R17 or something close to stock, just do the tune. If you’re going with 285/70R17 or similar regearing is the only real option. Some guys run the 33” tires on stock gearing and do ok with it knowing the limitations. I’m on stock tires and wouldn’t mind lower gears in the axles.

I just went through les schwab so not sure what brand lift but 3” in the front and 2” rear. Got some hostile wheels 0 offset because I don’t want to trim much/any and 285/70r-17/10 toyo MTs. I know I’ll lose some power from putting a little bit bigger tire on so looking for some “cheap” power essentially. Thank you! I appreciate the input guys! I’m new to the taco world but have always wanted one. This is the ol lady’s rig, I personally drive a 2015 Cummins. We just got this so we have another rig to go into the woods without spending a fortune on fuel lol. I heard about you guys from a buddy!
