Oh, I agree on the expense, it's a hard pill to swallow. I'm sure if you poked around TW for a little while, you might find some examples that don't need the space where the ABS is, that were home fabrications.

I've looked and looked and can't find anyone doing a different dual battery setup that looks as achievable to me as doing this mod to make room for a battery. I don't have a welder so I can't fabricate battery holders in random places like i've seen other people do.

Haha no worries. There might be something less expensive out there, not sure.

Nice to see this thread still helping out 3 years later. For the record, I still have the original system, and it has never let me down

Did this mod over the weekend, haven't put in a sound break in front of the HVAC intake as I didn't have any metal for it but hopefully will have something for that soon. Next step is to eventually fabricate a 2nd battery holder to fit in the open spot and run a dual battery setup. Overall it went fairly smooth, Milwaukee hole saws are expensive but made light work out of the sheet metal, had to go with Blue to match the rest of my truck. As of right now these are the only clean things under my hood!

Any of you guys experiencing a thud?

Im getting what feels like a thomp or thud upon acceleration from a dead stop, it sounds like the intake tube is hitting the firewall.

I have no rattling, i have a fuel line that is lined for the opening to prevent this

If I were to hazard a guess, based on those original installation pictures, you are likely hearing a clunk or thud from potentially two places. Where the ABS lines will rub against the aluminum pipe and where the aluminum pipe will rub against the A/C intake cowl. Again, just throwing out a guess, you could PROBABLY figure this out by having someone sit in the cab and rev the engine while you watch the flex of the intake to see where it's hitting.

Alternatively, if there's enough flex on the intake, what you MIGHT be hearing is the aluminum pipe rubbing against the rubber of the brake line, forcefully, while it moves into and out of the cowl. Sort of like when you try to drag something heavy over a rubber mat and it sticks and releases, causing a jitter.

Im taking my tube back to drawing board lol.

I noticed that the intake is really tight in the hole so tight it actually flexes the sheet metal upon load :/

For that reason, right there, that's why I went with flexible intake duct instead of the pipe. It is dead silent.

Yea, see, I kept the elbow and the flexible duct, I just have the flex duct completely compressed. I already had the stuff, so I figured may as well use it. Funnily enough, I don't remember if I replaced that janky gorilla tape with HVAC tape or not.
