From what I understand (from speaking to a couple trucker buddies and reading online), any CVOR registered vehicle requires the driver to keep daily logs. Q14 on this page mentions it.. Link

As for insurance, the only reason your insurance would change is for business use of vehicle.
If you only have CVOR because of one of the technicalities (flat bed, overweight, etc) then your insurance won't care since it's still personal use.

100% - it's extremely unlikely to find someone having a bad enough day to start pulling midsized trucks over due to a flat bed/tray.

That being said, the tickets are hefty as hell if you are that unlucky and from what I know, they will pull your plates until the vehicle is brought to standard (factory bed restored or CVOR registration).

I've also heard that highway 11 is getting bad between Orillia and Gravenhurst for OPP/MTO team up's stopping "commercial" vehicles..

Again, I have no first hand experience here!
So take this as you want :notsure:

When I initially did my research the cvor was only needed because of weight. Over a certain weight or carrying capacity you need a cvor.

However the new change is strictly because of the bed. I’m prepared to get a cvor, but until I “need” to I’ll wait. As of right now “I’m under the impression of my initial research”. Can’t go back to stock unfortunately.

    Ya for sure!
In no way am I suggesting you should do it differently - just passing the info along for anyone else interested.

Those rules stopped me from building myself a tube replacement for my old Ranger :annoyed:

Just wasn't worth the PITA for me then.

    Source?

I know campers are exempt. But I didn't think it gave exemption to other requirements (if camper is the only thing pushing you into CVOR territory, you're good but didn't think it cancelled out other requirements)

    Got it.
Like I said, I'm in no way an expert, but the way everything is written on MTO site is..

You are exempt if the following conditions are met:
    Random conditon, AND
    Random condition, AND......

My understanding is one doesn't cancel the other.
Again, I can't say 100%. It's just my interpretation from doing a good deal of research.

Absolutely. I was a bit upset with the law change as it was like “now what”.
I will say the majority of the time with my flatbed it had a cap. So that may have been my saving grace.
    now I don’t know.

I think it's kind of a grey area where you should be looking precedent cases, just like converting a van to a camper, is it an RV cause it has a shagging station in the back?

I agree. May need to skim over that. I believe that’s when it changed (2019). Had my bed on before that, not that it would matter.....definitely have to look into it.

haha. Get in line. @Norilsk i feel is trying to sabotage my truck so he can get it. May have been some questionable spotting in ardbeg.....:)
