I'm less than a beginner when it comes to investing. The only "investment account" I have is the Acorns app. With that being said, is now the time to buy some stocks or something since the market is tanking? Just what I have invested now has went down about 16-17% since all this Coronavirus b.s. started. I know everyone says the market has recovered from every downfall in history, but I just don't have any knowledge in this area. Any input is appreciated.

Yeah, I've looked at that thread, but for some reason I can't post there. I've downloaded that app before. Just don't really have a clue as to what/when to buy/do. My real question: Is this the best time to buy, while the market is still going down to capitalize when the market returns?

I think it’s a great time. It is about 20% cheaper than it was a month or so ago. Will it go down more? Maybe, nobody knows. But like you said, it always recovers. It’s a great time to buy!

I would say not yet, but get into position to buy, when silver starts take off you know we are close to the bottom, just study 2008 charts but every crash is different..

I have been trickling money into a few stocks for the last couple of weeks and keeping my positions diversified. I'm holding off now for at least the next week, I think there will be some good drops coming. I really want to get into some airlines but they are a mess and going lower (IMO).

    I use TD Ameritrade.

I too have been putting small amounts in here and there. Im looking at real estate and mortgage stocks, they are all around 1/3 of what they were 3 months ago but have been steady at the same price before that for 5+years. I put a good amount into the big airlines ($1000) when they were low.

I got caught bagholding a few mortgage REITs. I had what was about $13k in them, it's a lot less than that now. I won't sell at a loss, I expect them to rebound. I may get out if and when that happens. Getting in now might be very profitable though, some of them need to double to get back to their steady prices. My biggest concern is if they go bankrupt, but I'll take that risk before selling at a loss.

Yeah, as soon as I get some money out of them I will dump them. No point in holding something that never goes up once its hit its avg.

True, I was holding for the dividends. I was probably averaging a 10% dividend yield out of the 4 mortgage REITs I have (ARI, CIM, LADR, NRZ). That was more than an acceptable return to me. Now of course I learned the risk.

I also got in on a bunch of oil stocks, those should rocket back up once quarantine is lifted and Saudis and Russians quit fucking around.

My advice? These people are fricken beasts at truck advice.... but not at all the place to go for investing advice. The best advice for newb investors is to not watch stocks or check prices ever, just buy the SP 500 once per month and you'll be happy when u retire.

I am adding to CVX and XOM as aggressively as I can. Nobody wants cars that plug in, oil isn't going anywhere. They have stable (and very high) dividends too.

I've been holding back about 10% of my account in cash. In the event there is another drop, that will get spent on the best deal I can find. If the market continues up I'm fine with holding that cash.

Anyone else like to keep their positions rounded to the nearest hundred shares? Is that strange or not?

I went with marathon, sitting at 4 bucks now, normally around 16-20. I did add cvx and xom to my watch list, but being 80 and 40 is too rich for me to grab more than a few. I figure I can get 10 mro for the price of one xom. If they go back to their 52 week high, I will of made 40 with xom, but made 140 with mro.

I too, have no idea what I'm doing, but have a gut feeling now is the time. I downloaded Robinhood a couple weeks ago and spent about $80 of the $100 they make you start with, currently says I'm at $122.94. Thats a huge ROI according to my little brain. Portfolio includes cannabis, wifi processors, cellphone game producer, bio pharmaceuticals, and US raw steel materials. :notsure:

I just sold Microsoft (bought and sold it twice between 170-145 in the past 4 weeks) and Nike (25% gain in 3 weeks). Will sell my Disney when I get my price. I’m taking profits as they come. However, I’m holding a lot more cash than usual.

I expect the market to drop again when the extent of the financial carnage becomes apparent and that restarting the economy is not as easy as telling everybody to go back to work.

Just the essentials and no extra fluff.
It’s always time to buy. Whole market index fund, buy all the time, buy even more when it’s on sale.
