CV replacement on @Vendiola7 ’s 3rd gen today. A torn boot makes a huge mess as it flings grease everywhere. This was the result of a sway bar end link that came loose and rotated onto the CV at speed. Messy work to replace but pretty straightforward. Also went ahead and degreased the wheel well while I was in there because that just how I do.

Not as bad as gear oil but the grease is just a pain to get off.

What's your tool of choice as far as degreaser goes?

I've got some grease on both sides due to blown cv's :anonymous:

I spray the shit out of it with LA Awesome cleaner. Let that soak and wipe away as much as I can with rags/paper towels. Then I follow with dish soap and a scrub brush. I really like the LA Awsome cleaner (yellow stuff) I use that for everything from cleaning the stove after cooking bacon to degreasing engines. They actually make a specific car degreaser in a black bottle but I didn’t think it worked any better than the original stuff. Best thing is you can find it at most $0.99 stores.

I've always used this stuff, probably a knock off of Purple Power but it works well

Purple power is good but give the Awesome cleaner a try. I have a shelf full of cleaners and grease and oils and each one has a purpose. LA Awesome is the only one I keep in the shop and under the sink in the kitchen.

    Busy weekend.

Had @elmontemike in the shop to get his Southern Style Off-road bumper, Smitty X20 winch, Lambtek cutoff switch, and BajaDesigns light bar all installed on his clean third gen.

The punch outs from each of those dimples. I can smell this picture. I recycle my used motor oil to use with my drill press especially when drilling multiple repetitive holes. There’s 30 dimples there. Each one drilled, then punched to final size then dimpled by hand.

Technically this counts as a shop project but it’s more of a personal job than anything.

Saw some motorcycle gloves from Thrashin Supply go on sale (clearance) that I’ve been eyeballing. Looks like they’re clearing out their gauntlet style gloves (probably because they didn’t sell well). I’ve never been a fan of gauntlets but I understand their appeal. I prefer short cuff gloves for riding to keep thing lean and streamlined. So when an $80 glove goes on sale for $15, I jumped on it and made some modifications. Cut off the long cuff, rolled the edge and seam. And split the ulnar seam on the glove about 3/4” to make them easier to slip on and off.

I even reused the embossed logo as as internal gusset for the ulnar split and reinforced it with a couple stitches.

Sergio did an awesome job. I had that bumper sitting in my garage for just about a year. I was to scared to cut my bumper with my bad eyes and shaky hands. I have to say this set up looks vantastic.
    Thanks Again Sergio !!!

He even took better pictures than me!

as a side note. That bumper and winch smoothed out my ride. I installed the 700 pound springs with my new shocks because I knew I was going this route.
