Which Fumoto Valve is recommended

If this topic has already been beaten to death I apologize for bringing it up again. Please direct me to the link.

I’m about to do my first oil change on my TRD Off Road. I’m considering a Fumoto Oil Change valve and since there are 5 (from the Fumoto web site) to choose from I’d like to know which one you all would recommend. Also, was it necessary to pull the rearward pan to install the Fumoto?

Some older posts recommend the F103 however that model isn’t listed on the manufacturer’s web site.

Your recommendations are appreciated.

I use the

$37 F103S LC-10 Lever Clip FS-Series Engine Oil Drain Valve, 1 Pack

F103S.

 

Get the "Compact" Femco.

 

Yup same here. You definitely do not need to remove the skid to install this.

 

I have the F133. F103 is the older valve, f133 is supposed to drain faster.

 

yeah the 103 does drain pretty slow.

 

I have no experience with the 103, just what others have stated. Fumoto says the 133 has a larger body with a 60% larger drain.

 

Yessir the new version is the F133 which drained about 3x faster than my previous

Alright, I might be going crazy here, but I tried to install the

$40 F133N with LC-10 F-Series Large Body FUMOTO® Valve with Long Nipple and LC-10 Lever Clip for M12-1.25

F133N today during my oil change and the threads did not feel like they matched up.. at all. And I didn’t want to force it so I just reinstalled the old drain plug. Am I losing my mind?

 

Should fit. According to the specs, that's an M12x1.125 which is the correct thread for 2nd/3rd generation; any damage to the threads anywhere?

 

No damage on threads. I could feel it start to cock and start to resist. I compared it against the regular plug which went right in with ease. Tried two or three times. I feel like an imbecile

 

Why? It didn't seem right, so you didn't push it, and now you haven't f***ed up your drain beyond all recognition. It's possible that the Fumoto valve has faulty threads, might not readily apparent. Have you had your truck since new? Any chance someone previously messed up the drain and put in a Helicoil with a different thread pitch?

 

Yeah True. And I didn’t keep trying because I thought it was the wrong part number after a quick search but I found this thread that the F133 superseded the F103. I am not the original owner, this is my second oil change. Side by side they didn’t look any different.

not sure if I should return it and stick to regular drain plug or report back in another 5,000 miles

 

It is quite possible the new valve you have has flawed threads. I would try to exchange it and try again.

What is everybody's take on the nipple length on these valves? Long or Short?

Go buy an M12 nut and test fit the fumotomomo. Or just go to the store and try it.

 

I still don't see the point of the Fumoto. Unscrewing the plug really isn't that hard. It may save 60 seconds on an oil change, but it adds a potential failure point. Figure out a way to change the oil filter without having to remove the skid plate and you'd have a real time saver.

 

I don’t disagree. Just kind of a neat thing. Sometimes it’s the little things. Got it as a gift and figured I’d use it.

 

If you have a thread chaser or

M12x1.25 die, you could try cleaning up the threads.
