Got a five quart jug of 0W-20 accidntally instead of the recommended 5w-30.
    It's a 2013, 4.0L V6.
Is it safe to do an oil change with this? It's Pennzoil Platinum, if it matters at all.
Debating whether to use it and have a short oil change interval or get the 5w-30.

I accidentally put 0w20 in once.. emptied it the next day and put 5w30.

    Better safe than sorry

Use the right oil. Don't take the chance with using too light of an oil in an engine that's not designed for it.

Your truck probably won’t know the difference for one oil change. Don’t worry about it. Same engine (more or less) in the FJ cruiser calls for 0w20.

just swap in 5w30 on the next one.

I think the newer 1GRFE’s now say 0W20 but I also think the consensus was that they did that for a slim margin of MPG improvement.

    Never ran, 0w-20.
    I don’t think I would either.
    That’s awful light.
Take it back if you can?

I have run 5w-20. It wasn’t on purpose.
All was fine for 4,500 miles.
(Just throwing this in there for others that may wonder about it)
    I wouldn’t do this intentionally.

You absolutely CAN use the 0w-20 weight oil in your Tacoma without concern. Change back to 5w-30 the next change. Do a little independent "research" on your own (TW is NOT research) There are many independent, professional, resources explaining and comparing viscosity differences.

0W motor oil, that will be like water. How much thinner can it get? Those #'s scare me.

Yeah you can use it. You could also use pancake syrup.

You could also fill up your cooling system with water from your garden hose.

    Where do you live?
It might be just fine, for you, in really cold weather.

Thats the weight that my Tundra takes, I woulda bought it off you if it was Mobil-1
But yeah, small insurance to just axe it and get the proper viscosity oil for your truck IMO, but if its cold out that weight shouldnt be an issue. I raced Ducatis and used to change the oil viscosity depending on the ambient temps for the races. Never affected the engine components but was also using full syn $20/qt virgin blood infused oil. Thats bikes though, couldnt tell you with the trucks, Ive always just done full syn in whatever was recommended on the Taco and Tunny.

In the old days when I started driving and it was common practice to go to a lighter weight oil during the winter months, but I live in Minnesota. Multi weight oils were just starting to become the go-to oils. Use it and do an early oil change when the weather starts to warm up.

I wouldn’t use it but I’m weird like that. Maybe you can jump to the 3rd gen forum and offer to one of them if you find someone that lives close by. Or, return it where you bought it unless that’s not possible. Or, just take the hit maybe some day you’ll need it.
