I hear you on making the outlets "visible" in the plentiful knockout locations. The glovebox location is for a potential USB TPMS sensor receiver. I really don't want it out in the open and the Fcc launcher I use indicates it has native support for a lot of the Chinese TPMS units. They are cheap enough that I'm going to try it.

I've spent a lot of time with torque and while it doesn't open up everything, it does give some good instrument points. Crazy that oil temp isn't in the PID list. I'm guessing that maybe there is no sensor? I'm still trying to get the equation for the transmission temperature set up correctly. It's low in the list. I really thought I would be able to get TPMS through the canbus or at least with the BT OBD II connector. I chased that for a while before raising the flag.

I have a friend back in Houston that was able to plug his laptop running Linux into a cobbled up interface to a 2011 canbus. He was able to see TPMS data. Unfortunately there were unintended side effects to the manner that he connected. It appeared the TPMS operated at a different baud rate from normal OBD traffic and that somehow the Toyota system was oscillating between the two rates. If you didn't keep pace in the dance then bad things happened.

Ya, I remember you would have to buy the whole dasaita tpms system and I was told you would then have to replace all four (or five for spare) tpms sensors in the tires and then sync them with the new harness connected to your headunit. :burp:

But now these are the way I guess. Kinda sketchy, very easily stolen IMO.

As for where the OEM tpms receivers location? Should be below the climate control.
    Relays etc in dash.jpg

As for the engine temp through the odbII reader. I use torque as well but only for thrown codes and I haven't really explored it much. The engine temp is always readable on the dash :D

You're right there. I balked at $100 for the Dasaito TPMS add-on. I believe it only works with their software as well. The Fcc launcher has widgets for TPMS that (supposedly) work with all the basic Chinese units. I was welling to gamble $20 to see what it would do. I've seen internal as well as valve stem cap versions. For ease, I'm trying the valve stem version to see how usable it is. Hopefully the good folks in Arkansas won't steal it before I find out.

I'm also thinking Torque is more useful for diagnostic rather than operating purposes. Virtually everything that has a sensor is already in the dash anyways. I just found it odd that oil temp is not there. PID or otherwise. Transmission temp is there, but it requires a custom PID. That's eventually on my list.

Just got mine installed in my 2013 DCSB OR (NON-JBL) backup cam is in the mirror. I will eventually change the backup camera to the big screen using an aftermarket 12v camera but my goal was to have Carplay and Gaia GPS running on the headunit.

I ordered from Amazon.com (paid too much) since they had a listing for 2011,2012,2013,2014,2015 Tacomas. However this unit is the same as the 2005-2010 models.

-My hazard flasher/clock does not fit at all. I expected that after reading a lot of this thread. I just purchased an older radio on ebay that has the bracket. Hopefully that will be a more secure option then the hot glue.

-I also modified the stock metal mounting brackets, I was not quote as careful as I should have been. I did not think to remove the whole bezel like was shown above. I am happy with how mine mounts with the exception of the hazard button. Not doing this and the whole face would be very floppy and loose.

-One other issue was the plastic clips at the top. They like to stay in the dash and I lost one back behind somewhere.

-Overall this is a nice unit, I expected some clunkyness and some issues. The huge screen is beautiful and a total bonus that I can download topo maps to the headunit as I would any other andoid tablet. Touch screen is responsive. Sometimes it's a bit slow but still crisper then the OEM carplay unit in my 2019 Subaru. When sitting in the driver seat the first letter on the far left of the screen gets hidden, probably just parallax.

Just bit the bullet and ordered the current Dasaita Android 10 unit, got it for $435 and they're including a rear cam free. Of course, delivery is early March...

Success! I was able to get my 2013 hazard and clock to be securely mounted in the Dasaita unit. I had to purchase a stereo from a pre-2011 truck.

Step 1 - disassemble to reveal screws for bracket (screws already removed)

Step 2 - Remove bracket by held in with 5 screws and a couple clips
    [IMG]

Step 3 - Install 2011 and newer hazard switch into the bracket, it's held in perfectly with all the clips
    [IMG]

Step 4 - Only the center screw boss and the two edge ones line up. The clips on the bottom also line up. This feels plenty strong.

Step 5 - trim the tabs, You need to remove the pin on the center tab and remove the other two completely.

See, only the middle tab works. there are still two more screws on the outside edges and clips on the bottom.

Step 6: Success - I needed to buy some additional clips as I lost one behind the dash and the new stereo did not come with any for the hazard bracket.

I got the stock USB plug to work with a Scosche TAUSB01B usb adaptor. Plugs into the socket behind the dash near the stereo and then plugs into the Dasaita USB port. I cheaped out and bought a no name brand one that did not work. I bought this slightly more expensive one and it worked great.

Out on the Mojave Road my head unit was flopping up and down badly on every every bump and over the miles and miles of washboard. When I got back I found the earlier post of the guy who reused the OEM brackets and I got mine mounted. I also needed to slot the hole and use modified large diameter washers, no way the brackets will line up correctly with the head unit and bolt in place without doing this.

Now there is zero movement, rock solid. I also put felt tape (rattle-reducing flocking tape, https://www.mcmaster.com/7417A2/) around the bezel to prevent creaks and groaning from dashboard movement and expansion & contraction.

Also finally hooked up my rear facing camera. This didn't replace the OEM camera. I mounted this underside the top of my RCI bed rack. The only thing I needed to get used to was the perspective. Actual distances from objects is literally half of what they appear on the the screen. Maybe just an issue with the Natika camera I have. Next is to get the front camera mounted.

After convulsing through the various OBD/CANBUS urban legends on tire pressure access, I took a chance on this inexpensive TPMS solution. I wanted something that would work with the FCCLauncher that I use now. It's a pretty straight forward system. Four replacement stem caps with back side locking nuts on the stem, a USB receiver and a USB stick with software. The caps are marked with Right/Left and Front/Back and should be placed accordingly. The receiver should be placed far away from the head unit.

I was a little paranoid about using the USB stick for software and the FCC supposedly had native support. However in order to use this TPMS sensor (as app and as widget), you need to install a plugin from a FCC indicated google drive to gain the functionality. I guess if I trust the FCC as the launcher, then I'm reluctantly trusting the plugin. After the fact, I did bring up a small Raspberry PI with TinyCore just to interrogate the USB stick. My paranoia was not founded in this case as everything was benign. YMMV.

Once installed, it immediately fired the low pressure warning as it acquired all the sensors. So at least that part works. I changed to PSI and F measurements for my tastes. I was pleasantly surprised that it included tire temperature as well. I was expecting some drift in the pressure reading, but they were in agreement with my manual pressure gauge and portable inflater gauge. I was also impressed that the FCC plugin also showed the battery strength in display.

I'll try them out for a while to see how reliable and how long they operate. They also offer an internal stem unit that might be in consideration when I buy a new set of tires. Initial impressions are favorable. We'll see how it unfolds.

Natika Backup/Front View camera, same as the rear. I don't have it mounted yet, the 2011 grille is not that easy to find a good place to install it. I'm probably going to print something to mount it near the top. It'll have to be off center but that's not a big deal.

hey @theolee question I haven't been able to find the answer to despite googling multiple variations.. can I use the pre-existing wiring that's already been ran from my current camera to my Aftermarked kenwood head unit in conjunction with a new camera ? (I"m trying to avoid having to re-run all new wire) if that makes sense. can I somehow avoid that run with the new camera. ? I don't know how these things hookup.. some diff kinda plugs

With not personally knowing what your setup is like...

It depends. Chances are slim unless you're good at rewiring/splicing and or the connections happen to match up with the old cameras wiring.

Honestly in the long run, you would be better off with the newer hardware that a new camera is intended to be compatible with.

If you chose to DIY, the whole process is pretty simple. Consider the path (wiring) has already been laid out for you with the existing camera. I'm no pro and I consider this very simple. I did have to reach out to a buddy for specifics but nothing too gnarly. Do your homework and don't be afraid to ask questions!

I hope this answers your questions

For a unit like this, how "Android" is it really? Can I install a launcher like Nova and customize the home screen? Are there any apps you CAN'T install on this from what y'all have found? Mainly looking for Spotify, Chrome, Google Maps, Gmail, Calendar, etc...also, is there embedded LTE or do I need to have it so it auto launches the tethering to my phone or something?

Long time ago I had a really sweet Nexus 9 setup in the dash. I had written all sorts of scripts to make it hibernate/resume via the vehicle ignition. It was outstanding. I really loved the ability to do pretty much whatever I wanted on that device (it was rooted). It became a hassle to maintain though as it was stuck on Android 5 and basically fell behind.
