Dealer SOLD my truck - resolved

While this may be no help at all with everything going on, I’ve read a few posts in this thread here and there, if you want a specific interior, if they offer something you like, get them to buy or pay for installation of katzkin or similar interior with a pattern you like and maybe it’ll keep clean a little easier. Hopefully they make it right and get you exactly what you bought.

Based on your notes of the call, it seems like they are looking to make things right. What is best for you to do is give them a chance to make it right -- and see what else they are willing to throw in to make you happy.

To the folks who think you go in all hot, keep in mind that the dealer is 1,000 miles away, they have a lawyer on retainer and you don't have the time or the resources to get into a protracted conflict over something like this.

Strategy idea. Lock down the truck in Seattle -- meaning lock down the price and all of the details so you have an option, since you need a truck. Without telling this dealer, see if they can beat the deal. Then you have a choice to make -- finish what you have (devil you know) or cut and run.

If you decide to stay with the current dealer, be professional and firm but polite. When they come back with their offer and you are sure you are getting the truck then say something to the effect of "we all know I have been treated badly here ... we all make mistakes ... I appreciate you taking the time to make it right ... what would really leave me feeling good here is if you were willing to throw in X, Y and Z. Have a few asks that they can pile on that will make you happy -- and that are easy for them to throw in the mix given their size and revenues.

I asked them how they will make it right on the call. They said they will locate a truck by Monday. I have no problem giving them an opportunity, to make it right, even though they screwed it up.

If nothing on Monday - I will walk away. That is all I can do.

I was very professional on the call, and as you said it was just business. It wasn't personal. I didn't do any "Sales screwed up, finance screwed up, blah blah." They have it all in writing from me in bullet points, and we are all adults in the room.

Your opinion has been very valuable. GM will call me Monday. CEO has said to let him know update on Monday. We are all on the same page.

I am sure they will find the same truck, no red interior. At that point, no problem, I will take it.

Yes they said they will make it right. I have no problem giving them till Monday as they asked. That is a reasonable request.

Yes I do need a truck. I sold my SR last week, and I can't run the farm in 2 weeks without a truck. I have a F150 rental now from Enterprise to get me through 2 weeks.

Seattle dealer asked for a $500 deposit. I said I will Monday morning.

Yes, agree with you 100%. Professional, polite, and staying my line. I didn't say "I want Offroad, or give me $5,000." THey offered to make it right, and I am giving them the 72 hours they asked for.

Yes, on Monday IF they find the truck, then I can ask for something for the inconvenience. I didn't ask for anything today, because if they can't find me a truck on Monday - all this is moot point anyways. I made a small list of asks, just as you said.

Ha! As long as you come out at the same price you were before (or a little ahead, or with a few extras) this will be a good story to tell. You will have the truck for 20 years so this memory will fade ...

I bought mine from that dealer in 2019. I had a good experience—can’t remember the salesguy’s name, I just remember he was huge, as in Izzie Kamakamiwo-ole huge. But he was helpful.

I wanted a manual, and was fairly persistent until one was found at a price I could live with. I got about 10% off the MRSP, plus some sliders and other perks, so I felt reasonably happy with the deal.

I’ve always had good luck with car purchases, except for one incident many years ago where a salesman was very pushy to the point I backed out of the deal.

Anyway, yes dealers can be manipulative to some extent, but at least in the Midwest there is generally an attitude of being low-key, while trying to make everyone happy.

As others have said, it’s not a perfect business and mistakes happen, so give them a chance to make it right. Hopefully it will work out for you.
