Any ideas what "USB 2" serves in the head unit under "Audio Source?" It shows up if the "Reorder" button is pushed. It doesn't activate my USB music stick if I press it. So far, it doesn't seem to do anything.

    Audio-->Source-->Reorder-->USB 2

I wonder if it allows you to connect to the USB's in the console?

What year is your taco? On my 2020, I've never seen the USB buttons options. I assume if you have a USB device connected that it's an option.

Makes me want to go out in the cold to check my 2020. If it activates the usb in the console it would be awesome. Plug my phone in to it and drop it in there. Out of sight and no distraction or even plug my old school iPod into it and leave it.

this is from page 122 of the "Navigation and Multimedia System Owner's Manual" and i'm still not exactly sure what it means.

when it says "Reorder" maybe it means to switch from one usb device to another?

It would be very handy to have both ports active with the head unit. I am also tempted to go outside and test, maybe after the football game.

Thanks for posting that info. Now it makes sense. I already understood "reorder." It's so that the arrangement of source "icons" can be moved around.

Looks like the main USB port for CarPlay & USB music sticks can handle a 2 port hub allowing for the Carplay cable and a USB music stick to be plugged in at the same time without the need to keep switching them out in a single port. And the sources USB & USB2 are to switch back and forth from each port on the hub.

If true, this is excellent and what I have been hoping for since I got the truck. No longer will I have to jockey around with the CarPlazy cable and a USB music stick. Just switch the "source."

I tried this when I first got my truck and bought a 4 port hub and CarPlay wouldn't work. I gave up and never revisited the issue. Now that I have seen the USB2 selection for source and the information you provided above I am gonna buy a 2 port hub and I think that will work for CarPlay & USB music plugged in at the same time. And select either one through the Source Selector.

I use Voice Recognition a lot so this will be great.

    Thanks!!!

I think it allows for 2 ports to be plugged in at the same time then to switch from one to the other the SOURCE-->USB or SOURCE-->USB2 is selected by the driver.

My 2021 OR has this (USB2) as well. Just reordered my icon screen locations. Know nothing about using devices on the USB ports.

And, specifically, which one works. I have heard that not all two-port hubs will work for data, but I haven't been able to find any good information on which ones do the job.

I have already done some research because I am very interested in this. I want to use my iPhone on CarPlay and have an iPod on USB2. Looking on the internet there are warnings on all of the products I have found that they either can’t charge and transfer data, cannot be used for carplay, etc. I would be interested in a link to a viable solution to this. Very few 2 port hubs out there at all.

Okay... I went and bought a USB hub. Good news and bad news. It will allow for 2 USB stick inputs. With 2 USB sticks in the hub the "source" screen will show both USB and USB2 to select. A phone or iPad can also be plugged in with a USB stick and either one selected in the "source" screen.

The bad news is that Apple CarPlay is not recognized whatsoever if going through the USB hub. Doesn't matter if it's the only thing plugged into the hub CarPlay doesn't work. The phone with CarPlay is recognized by the head unit as a music device looking for music files.

Yup. That is what I was seeing. Since I always use CarPlay there is no incentive to do a 2 port hub, as I’d have to remove the phone and shut down CarPlay anyway. Maybe someday, someone will come up with a solution. The other thing I hate is that although I have 10,000+ songs on my iPhone, I can’t access them once I go over 5mph unless I access them manually on my phone at 85mph, which is what I assume is the behavior the developers are trying to prevent. It is safer to access the songs on the touchscreen display of the Tacoma than pick up the phone and do it. Disappointing.

Thanks for trying and reporting back. That kills using a USB hub for me.

have you thought of contacting some usb manufacturers and asking them if they make a hub to handle CarPlay or if they can make one, like anker or belkin, etc.?
