Kbb provides 3 values, used retail, used private party, and trade in. Trade in value is around half of what you'd expect to pay to buy at a used car dealership. Pp is priced in between.

I did my research, decided I wanted a 2nd gen 4.0, 6sp manual, single or access cab. Finding one was a different story. Any that came up would get snatched up immediately. Look at the add, stop to think about it, next day or 2 it's gone.

I came very close to buying new. But, to get a v6 (3.5), 6sp manual access cab, there was only 1 choice, I think it was a trd off road 4x4. I think it was out of 19 different tacoma versions available, and it would have to be special ordered. None anywhere I could even go look at. After 7 months of looking, I decided 1 more week and I'll go buy the new one, keeping in mind I didn't want 4wd. Lucky me I found one. Had I been willing to take a 4cy auto it wouldn't have taken so long. The market here in socal in they're asking in the 25-29k range for newer nice one's, any flavor available.

Researching, I also learned nobody makes small trucks anymore, only tacoma sized "mid sized ". The manufacturers have turned their backs on the industry's that built them. That's why single cabs are rare or completely absent. They want the homeowner market. Bob who has a wife & 2 kids needs 4 seats. He also wants to go to home depot & be able to get stuff home. There's the f150, don't care for the silly 9 sp transmission, too big for my needs. I measured my driveway, it would have fit if I ripped the porch out. There's the Chevy Colorado, didn't care for the available drive train options. There's the honda ridgeline, nice but expensive, double cab only, not for me. There's dodge ram, I would never own a Chrysler product. Theres the jeep truckish thing, I would never own a Chrysler product.

470s are same chassis and same general parts as a v8 4Runner so majority if not all maintenance parts can be bought from Toyota (specc’ed for 4Runner) and not Lexus.

4Runners from the same year range 03-09 also had cracked dashboards.

But yeah gas mileage not perfect. The pro to the v8 though is they handle upsizing tires very well.

OH man, I didn't know about the 4runner dashes cracking. Thanks for the heads up! I'll do a little more research to see what years may be effected by these ill tempered dashes. I've been keeping an eye out for an 09 4runner because from what I could find, the 09s have the least amount of issues between the 06-10 models.

Yeah and Toyota did a similar dash replacement campaign that’s since expired. So if you find a used one with a cracked dash Toyota no longer fixes them.

I had such a hard time finding a clean 03-09 4Runner. Those poor things get turned into family beaters or rust buckets, or mileage is way too high even for a Toyota. Good luck finding an 09. That’s peak recession and only so many were made. Most you see for sale are 03-05 range. I have a 2004 V8 but prefer the 06-09 body styling with the rounded fender wells and projector headlights.
