Oh there will be some mods all right
She's actually really good about stuff like that. You can put clothes on her and play with her paws and all kinds of stuff and she doesn't care. We have to get better booties though, they kept falling down and filling with snow and we had to keep digging the snow out.

Great video! I love the end when she decides to go pick out her own stick.

New environments are stimulating whether or not the dog is fearful. Just lots of new. Combine that with training and it can be difficult. I wouldn’t worry too much, just visit Lowe’s next :)

little scary. Malinois are aggressive NATURALLY. I was always told to not train them to be aggressive unless it was a job.

Willow doesn’t get aggressive at all with anyone, but she can tell if I don’t trust them. I’ve had her growl a couple times because she could sense I was uneasy with someone. I’m really not sure what she would do if an actual aggressive situation happened. But even with strangers that I am friendly with and obviously my family, she is happy go lucky

Very much so. Every meal time is training time. I’ve also had to come to new expectations with willow. She is disciplined, until the training is over. Then she turns into a cracked out clown. I can get her to stop at any point (even without a treat) but it’s kind of her personality. She is hyper as all get out, but I can get her to come down again by having her focus on me.

literally my only complaint about her is the barking......ALL THE FREAKING TIME! I have literally just had to get over it. I’m not about to use a shock collar on her to get it to stop.

Get one of those squeeze limes. Little squirt in the mouth and a stern "NO!" might help.

Water might work in some cases but with a water dog, not so much. Plus, you're not likely to feed your dog lime (or lemon). I used to use a water bottle to water Riley on hikes-so he's getting water from a squeeze bottle. Don't want to discourage that.

Shock collars are great tools when used correctly! I swear by the Garmin Sport Pro. I have always used vibrate prior to any stimulation and now when they don’t listen and I use the vibrate it corrects them 90% of the time, because they know the shock is next. I know they’re very controversial though.

there is a training collar I looked into a couple months back. It wasn’t a shock collar really but more of a stem type feeling (for those who have had stem therapy). I know a lot of Malinois owners use them because the shock is more of a discomfort. Not sure if you can set it up for barking, but they work like a champ for heel. It basically creates a “comfort” zone around you.

I know military uses an actual shock collar for their dogs, but I see the necessity there. First, the dog is a tool, and second, a dog barks and can have a lot of dead soldiers

I rarely even have to vibrate the dogs anymore. As soon as I put the collars on, they immediately begin to behave better. I love the Garmin sport pro. It has an easy toggle switch to switch between, up to, 3 dogs.

Three stimulation levels, continuous stim, momentary stim, and vibrate/tone!

They have beacon lights that you can turn on from the controller for more visibility at night or to light up the pathway in front of them.

And it has an auto rise bark limiter. If the dog barks, it begins at a low level of stimulation and rises in stimulation until the dog stops. It remembers that level which they stopped at and will start just under that the next time or you can turn it on to a certain level if your dog doesn’t react to the lower levels.

I know people hate them and I was against them until I met someone who had three dogs off leash, walking right next to them, and obeying their every command. We got talking and I gave it a shot and my dogs behavior is out of this world different. They are still the same happy, energetic, loving dogs they’ve always been. Just better recall and ability to break their attention when they are overly excited or fixated on something.

and a picture to go with all the hoopla:

See! Something like that I can get behind. I may grab one here soon. She has the basics, just about to start with the heeling since I can get her attention no problem now!

thank you for that info!!! Sounds like it’s similar to what I read about!!

Not to pick on you but this is another reason why training devices aren't always the best. As soon as they're off, the behavior returns.
