My "splash shield" is beat up beyond recognition and I'm looking for a replacement just a little tougher. I'm not doing serious rock crawling and I want to keep the weight down (and clearance up). I see there is the Toyota "skid plate" like this:

    upload_2021-1-17_18-50-7.jpg

Not sure why it sticks up so far?

    Plus the TRD pro skid:

Though the price is a bit high on that.

Any recommendations for a fairly simple aluminum front skid, reasonably priced?

The OEM skid plate-in your first and not the second picture is not a replacement for the "splash shield". It is just another layer. Not sure what you mean by "sticks up so far"

oem skid plate for 2nd gens painted with truck bed coating.

So if my splash shield is demolished, do I actually need to replace it before putting something else on? What would be the point of that?

Regarding "sticks up", I haven't seen one in person, but it looks like there is extra sheet metal just sticking up beyond the point where the forward most mounting bolts are. Maybe it would make sense if I could see in person.

Two questions - does the rci plate just bolt on without drilling? Do you have to remove it when changing the oil?

I like that one. Looks like it must be removed to change the oil filter?

Direct bolt on and does not have to be removed to change the oil. I have the full steel skid package and they are great!

I have an rci skid plate and it's very solid. Fit is perfect. Looking to add a mid skid plate
