I bought a 2009 Tacoma CCLB w/144K last month and I am looking to install a new exhaust which is not much louder than stock also a ECU or somewhat of a power tuner. So my question is if you have any suggestions on what exhaust would be best? looking for a little performance and that is reasonably quiet as well.

TRD cat-back seems to be the go-to for those wanting a noticeable but subtle improvement in sound.

    Right on Thanks

After looking around that is where I landed or Borla.

How would you move forward programming the ECU?

Read on a few others that an intake wont make much of a difference.

    Only getting 15 mpg

If you want an intake the URD TCAI is the preferred kit. HPTuners cracked the Tacoma’s ecu and there’s a guy in the forum that has been the Tacoma tuning guru.

Before you get into the ECU there is probably some deferred maintenance to take care of that will help with mileage. Clear any codes, change your sparkplugs, clean the MAF etc.

    Luke,
    Welcome to TW!
The sale invoice for my 2010 Tacoma included the TRD Exhaust. Took a month to arrive after truck delivery. Not very loud and best performance improvement noticed between 1500 and 2000 RPM, especially in 4th gear. In the automatic tranny fifth gear is an overdrive ratio - 4th gear is 1:1. For anything less than 45 - 50 mph, I'm in 4th. Actually, my opinion in that RPM range the exhaust was no louder than stock and definitely far better throttle response. Added a TRD air filter a couple years later, very little difference with my driving style - hardly worth the expense.
    Gas milage observed is season dependent, local trips: winter - 14 - 17; summer - 17 - 20; highway: 18 - 22 mpg.
Added a new set of Michelins a couple months ago. Now, when I step on it, typically from a stoplight, she will break traction - go figure - if only she had a real LSD.
Enjoy personalizing your "new" Tacoma. Watch out for your wallet when you come across all those many "gotta-have" goodies found here on TacomaWorld!
    Again, Welcome to TacomaWorld.
