My friend has a 2nd gen Tacoma, I don't know what year. He has difficulty off-roading at times because, I think it might be the traction control, or an anti-slip system or something. Anyway, when he is off-roading is annoys him, whenever the wheels slip they beeps and adjust, but he doesn't want the wheels to adjust. It this just as simple as turning off traction control or something?

I'm not sure about the 2nd gens, but I know with the 3rd gens you have to hold the button for about 7 seconds to get TC to shut off.

The truck has to be stationary to turn off completely. If you’re rolling, it’ll just reduce the nannies, but not completely eliminate them

    correct,

in 4-Hi the traction control is there. but it mimics an LSD ( supposed to anyway ) Should not affect the throttle output. when in 4-lo, all that stuff is turned off.

    Yes and yes.

Located to the left of the steering wheel in 2nd gens, if he has it. I *think* the very early years did not, dont quote me on that though

Let it be known that @SR-71A absolutely 100% certifies that all early years did not

It depends on the year. On 2009 for sure and I think 2010, when you are in 4H you automatically have limited slip both front and rear. No buttons to push to achieve this. Best traction available without a locker.

So..... if in 4Loits automatically off? I got myself in a situation a couple weeks ago and was in 4Lo and was trying to turn it off but no reaction to pushing the button.
I guess I need to get the manual out!

I'm pretty sure that the non-TRD TRAC system turns off in 4Lo unless you do the yellow wire mod.

There are different levels of TRAC depending on the year and it gets confusing trying to decipher what the lights mean. On my 2015 I have the option to turn engine output regulation OFF and leave the simulated LSD function on in 4Hi. Again, the non-TRD TRAC always turns off in 4lo unless you do the yellow wire mod AFAIK.

Ok. I think its a TRD sport. So it sounds like he will manually have to turn it off.

    It's the wife's T4R so it's stock
There's a chart somewhere that explains all the different modes I reckon... gotta find that thing.

If he doesn't have ATRAC this thread helps explain things. Mostly.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/a-trac-trac-auto-lsd-explained-easy-to-understand-i-hope.70551/

Turning off the engine power regulation but leaving the simulated LSD on shouldn't cause any weird control issues and actually help in most situations. Turning TRAC entirely off will give you an open diff that will cause problems in most situations.

He probably doesn't like the engine power being throttled down automatically. I don't like it either, but I DO find the simulated LSD to be very useful now that I know how to make it work better. By keeping RPMs steady and up a little bit higher, it'll help keep the vacuum pressure up to actuate the ABS system.

Mine is a 2015 Sport and I’ve read ads reread the manual but still can’t understand it. I’ve only got the VSC button on the left side.... if I am stuck and in 4lo.... do I press the button to turn off?
