Toyota Master Tech talks about the importance of break in period, the first oil change, regular oil changes and those free dealership services.

I plan to keep my 2020 for a long time so it’s reassuring that I’m doing all the correct things he recommends to keep it on the road for a long time.

Until bought the Tacoma my new car was my ‘82 CJ-8.

I love it when a youngster tries to tell me how to maintain something. Or as the old saying goes “Don’t try to teach your grandmother how to suck eggs”.

I do have plans with keeping my taco for the long haul, but if my minions start spawning more. I may have to get a bigger family hauler.

I watched a lot of his videos over the weekend. He seems to make sense on some things. He is right about some of the break in stuff. Not going fast and reving up the engine, no towing, no hard braking, drive varied speeds is all in the owners manual.

I changed my oil just before 5000 miles for peace of mind. I don't feel ok about 10,000 mile oil changes. Some of my driving habits and actives are in severe service too.

Um... I read the manual... cover to cover multiple times. I don't need piece of mind as much as I need factual information, from Toyota engineers... instead of a youtube guy looking for likes so he can be an influencer...

I haven't even pulled my manuals out of the shrink wrap. I'm sure a Barrett Jackson this will give someone the tingles. I have changed the oil 3-4 times since i've owned it. I'm currently at 3500 miles or so in two years. I'm leaving it stock and keeping detailed records, mostly in case i punt it on later. It's easier to sell a stock vehicle with a good service history vs. a Chad i fell into the mod rabbit hole truck

I'm not married to the idea of forever. I guess Autotrader is like the modern day Tinder for me.

    Working on it ...
On my 4th truck. All Toyota’s. All crazy high mileage mega dependable trucks. My last one was 2002 TRD Off Road 4x4 V6 MT. Blew the head gasket at 213,000 miles. Body and interior still in great shape. Original clutch, original rear brakes, original starter, original alternator, etc.

My trucks aren’t trophy vehicles. I work them hard and I play them hard. But I maintain them well and keep them as clean as I can. But it does not pay for me to replace one every two or three years just so I have something shiny again.

If I did the head gasket work, prob would gotten another 90-100k out of it. Dealer offered me 1500 so I took it. I mean it was 17 years old. My misses said I deserved a new one :)
