+1 on "all about the tech". We had a Safelite technician come from out of state because we did not have one for our location at that time. The crack wasn't on my Tacoma but on my son's Civic. I was going about my work inside the house but I realized something was amiss when he started poking inside the car. I stepped out and realized that small crack now became a big crack and the whole windshield needed to be replaced. That in itself was OK because they will let you know about the possibility of further damage and you have to sign off on this. He was poking around the car because the office wanted to know if the car had a camera associated with Honda's safety sensors (it did). Mind you, this camera is visible from outside but he actually opened the housing near the rearview mirror to see if there was a camera. He should have informed me about the need for replacement before he started poking around. I could have told him about the camera. Needless to say I said no to the offer of windshield replacement and went to a local shop. Sometimes a local shop does not stock on those specialized windshields and they have to order through the dealership. YMMV.
