What criteria do you guys use to decide what size to get? I got 2in lift with 32's right now and will probably go up to 33's in the near future.

Suspension travel is important here. When I hooked up to my aftermarket rear bumper, I pretty much run out of 48 inch hi lift while lifting in my driveway. Lifting off sliders would not be an issue. But I vote 60" anyway.

Damn, so all in on the big one right off the bat? I do have sliders, no front bumper and I guess the rear I'd go into the tow hitch. Suspension is key, might have to get together with some friends to see if I can test their sizes out.

    Thanks for the input!

Maybe you can get away with it 48 inch one. Especially if you'd use it on sliders, or wheels (with one of those https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00042KGWG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_dd0bGbHYKD9SQ)

I seen a Ronny Dahl video where he just uses webbing instead of the hi lift make to accommodate more wheels when those hooks don't work out well but seems a little sketch. 48 inch sounds like it may be the min.

You can never have too much lift capacity.

The 60 inch one can be a storage problem.

Honestly i ended up in a pretty big ditch this weekend and coulda used a tall high lift jack

an exhaust jack also could have helped me get some rocks under the front tires

Yeah, that has crossed my mine. I have two ideas of where to store it. I have the CBI overland racks that I can mount onto on the "outside" facing portion when I need space in the bed. I am also thinking I could mount it on the bed rails against the cab when not camping and such.

waved down a guy in a Dodge Ram and had him hook up to the rear recovery point. Even with maxtrax, a shovel, and deflated duratrac tires i couldnt get enough traction.

Edit: Maybe a high lift could have made the difference

It seems like a couple of bottle jacks could have possibly helped you get underneath that low spot to stack some rocks.

Hmm didnt think of that, you mean placing one under the lower control arm?

Yeah, something like that. I seen some videos that say to keep your stock jacks and smaller ones as they sometimes help you get in low underneath when other big jacks can't, among other uses. Lift it up and then stack some rocks and just move forward or reverse and let it tip over and fall. Maybe it wouldn't have helped but just another tool, like the hi-lift (which I don't have yet :)

Yeah this experience has left me shopping for a high lift too, i hear they can be dangerous though. The ARB Jack is safer but cost about $800. Maybe an exhaust jack would be a good alternative. I’d be interested to see what you end up choosing

Hi Lift jacks are not dangerous. It’s the human using that is the dangerous part of the equation.

By a true Hi Lift, not a knock off. Then read about how to use it and practice BEFORE you need it.

I’ve seen the knock offs fail. Literally go to pieces or buckle. You really do get what you pay for.

And remember if you’re stuck, STOP. Catch your breath, walk around the vehicle and look at it from all sides. Then make a plan.

Then make a backup plan for when the first doesn’t work. This happens more than you might think. Go slow and THINK out each step.

It is only a foot longer and a small amount of extra weight to go 60in. If you can fit it where you want to pit it then there really isn't a down side to going with the longer one. If you ever use it as a winch you will be very glad you have the 60.
