OP hasn't been on since December 7th. I think we need a new thread? Can @tcBob maybe work some magic to promote a new leader for this one?

Need to get some dates secured! I know there are folks traveling in for this, so we can't have this be a floating target.

I always thought the 18th was a little iffy since it is a Thursday, but if we're going for that weekend, that's no problem for me.

    You rang!?!?!?

Working on a poll now. Looks like the 13th and 18th were the only dates mentioned here. Might make the 20th as the other option since it's a Saturday?

I spoke to Ron at The Big Texan regarding the logistics of a large group of people descending upon their establishment and attempting the steak challenge. I haven't gotten too many details, but I did start inquiring about group size and dates.

Ron has suggested that we could get a private room there with tables spread out to respect COVID protocols, then send 4 people at a time to the big table to attempt the challenge.

Originally, this thread floated out the idea of March 18th as it was (supposedly) the 72nd day of the year. That had the most votes and I believe some people have started tentatively planning around that date.

March 13th and March 20th are Saturdays, however, which might be more conducive to peoples' schedules. THAT SAID, Ron said that the 13th and 20th are both part of their Spring Break rush and he did not believe they could accommodate a "large" group. For sake of my call with Ron, I told him around 20-25 people, but we need to get those numbers figured out as well. He did say that they could accommodate us if we did it on Thursday the 18th and did it "a little earlier" in the day. We need to keep that in mind. I don't know what "a little earlier in the day" means, but I assume late afternoon would be fine. Consider that, if we have 20 people signing up to do the challenge, that will take 5 hours going 4 at a time (not counting the time it takes to get one contestant out and another seated).

For the votes, the first 3 options are for people that want to do the challenge. The next 3 are for folks that want to come with us, but will be spectating the challenge only.

So, vote in the poll and comment here your level of commitment to going. I just need to know if you are in and, if so, is it tentative/date dependent/for sure/etc.

Additionally, IF you have made significant plans, accommodations, purchases, etc. that center around a particular date that you cannot back out of, PLEASE let us all know here, too. Some of us might have date preferences, but we're all good community members and don't want to stick someone with a non-refundable ticket to something that everyone else changed their mind on.

I realize I'm coming in to this a bit late, so let me know if there is anything else to be considered that is specific to the date we choose to do the challenge and the number of people we get to commit.

Once we have a little better feel for that, we can converse more about other things you would like me to ask The Big Texan.

I was just going to assume that the 18th included the 20th. It's gonna be a 2 night trip for me regardless.

As stated before I'm definitely in, solo for a March date, wife with me if April/May. I couldn't do the challenge with a gun to my head so I'll be eating a meal and hitting the gift shop, or doing a TW group 72oz feed. Thanks for taking the lead @bvbull200 looking forward to meeting everyone.

Add to the poll in for the challenge or spectator so we know who is which!

I think so, but I think the date in question was the date that the folks were thinking we'd all do the challenge. I did plan on being there both dates, too, though.

I had to delete and reset the poll to change a couple options. Sorry about that for the couple of you that already voted! Be sure to get fresh votes in!
