D5CEE28F-87D8-4E9E-835D-1D225961B17C.jpg Can someone please for the love of 2nd gen Tacoma’s tell me where the damn igniter is in the engine bay!?!?? I have searched relentlessly and can not find anything that shows the location I have a 2015 Tacoma 4.0
I want to hook up a digital tachometer to a pillar pod and from what I can figure out there is a black wire that comes from the igniter that I need to splice into to get it to work. I found this wiring diagram but I’m not even sure if that right so please any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you

    There isn’t one.
The ECM controls the coils by grounding each at a specific time.

CCF33BE3-80BE-4197-B55D-249792CDB9A4.jpg Yeah I did see that one of the ways to hook it up was in the negative of the coil but of course I found that to be later model Tacoma’s. But then I ran across this so hoping I could go this route. Which would coincide with the wiring diagram

I’ll be honest, I don’t know what that is?

If you trust information “off the internet”
    Then you might look here

FAIR WARNING. IF YOU MESS SOMETHING UP, IT ISN’T MY FAULT.
I don’t recommend hook anything into the Data Port except scan tools.

I don’t trust anything I don’t know about. I don’t know anything about hooking up an aftermarket tach in a 2nd Gen.

Is it on the passenger wheel well? Under the intake duct?

There's really no good way to get a tach signal on a vehicle with individual coils unless you use OBD data or find one that can be hooked up to the primary ignition wire on one of the coils, there is no igniter module on the 2nd gen trucks that you can get a tach signal from.

Newer Toyota ECU's often have a tach output signal even if the signal to the gauge cluster is sent via CAN. It varies depending on year and engine, but for a 2015 Tacoma 4.0L it is pin 29 on connector E14 (black/white wire on 36-pin connector, second from the end of the ECU). This wire runs to the TACH pin (pin 9) on the OBD connector.

Hey Jeff appreciate the info would you by chance have a pic to where exactly? Would I connect the wire to the 29 side or the 9 side? Thanks

This is for the 4 cyl, pin 9 on the DLC is for the tach and it's the easiest way to tap into it. It's the black/white wire.
