Hey everyone - looking for some opinions based on experience from anyone who has a manual transmission 3rd gen and has regeared to 4.88s.

I currently have roughly 300lb-ish of extra load weight on my 2017 DCSB trd pro between a bed rack, prinsu, RTT, and 270 awning, and have added an extra deaver spring in the back, but am strongly considering regearing up to 4.88 due to the sluggishness when i have added supplies/gear in the back for roadtrips/camping.

Anyone here have experience regearing a manual 3rd gen? Better yet, anyone located in socal or know someone located in socal who's regared to 4.88?

Looking for general feedback specific to manual transmission regearring - any thoughts, opinions, or experience welcome here

I'm also on OV 2.0 SFOB, and 32" tires

    thanks y'all

I have 4.88 nitros in my 2018 tacoma 6-speed. i also have front and rear steel bumpers, sliders, front skid, plus a winch.

I run 285/10/17s and before I re-geared it was pretty sluggish. Now it feels normal.

I used @socalexpeditions group buy. $1700+ tax OTD within 2 hours or less. There are some bad experiences but mostly good with them. I had a good experience.

I absolutely recommend re-gearing if you plan to run larger tires, but Maybe you already run the same. Now I’m planning on running 35x12.5s. Lol we’ll see if it feels horribly sluggish again. 1st world problems for sure.

good luck. PM me if you have further questions.

    Thanks for the info

How do you like the timing of your shifts? I've heard its a bit ridiculous getting up to 3rd gear, where you're shifting from 1 to 2 real quick off the line, and you're in 3rd by like 20 mph - correct me if I'm wrong here.

I'm sure it makes bumper to bumper traffic god awful, but how about city driving? Do you feel that the benefits in higher gears is worth the change of pace & shifting in the lower gears? Any extra detail would be greatly appreciated
