I might have missed it, is that the intent behind the 2x6 studs?

 

2x6 wall framing has been standard here since the 80's when our minimum code requirement for wall insulation was raised to R-20

 

No chit? Damn, more expensive but I like it. In SoCal, I'd do it for noise insulation.
Nice build, looking forward to the progress and completion. ("completion" meaning the never-ending work in progress)

 

there is going to be an additional 2" R-8 layer of Rockwool Comfortboard mineral wool insulation on the outside of the framing that will help with sound transmission too

 

I'd be waiting for the existential "damn I am". Then just "damn". Which is appropriate for my life.

 

Boring , pic free update ~

electricians came today , built service and mast for drop pole and we pulled conductors into shop panel from drop pole through conduit , now we can call for electrical utility to hook us up

Insulator was delayed , he'll be here tomorrow

 

My Insulator bud arrived about 1:00 , got about 1/2 of rafter batts installed , should finish roof & walls tomorrow



Also had plumber come by to run a few copper lines in bathroom interior wall for boiler send and return to manifold as well as a 1/2" copper line for compressed air from compressor cabinet to high wall outlet on shop side of wall for air hose reel

Insulator has another couple hours to finish up in the morning but we achieved a pretty big milestone today , BC Hydro came and hooked up my service to the shop this afternoon

I couldn't believe they were here , connection is usually 10 business days , I called yesterday lol

Now it won't feel like being in an ice box inside haha , just in time for drywall heaters

 

So will you install an air conditioner of some kind? Sorry, I don’t know what the weather conditions would be in the Great North during the summer. I have to use fans in mine otherwise I would be dripping perspiration all over my work and tools.

 

Air conditioning not really needed here in the summer , plus the thermal mass of the slab and exterior insulation help regulate any temperature swings

 

Insulation / interior vapour & air barrier complete , hope to have inspection Monday





Plumber came and finished boiler supply / return as well as condensate drain line and an in-wall copper compressed air line for me

 

Question - is there any particular reason that you choose to use fiberglass insulation instead of rockwool for the walls and ceiling?
