Looking into this I'm curious is there a failsafe for the 6spd manual if I were to remote start and for some uncontrollable reason the vehicle were to get shifted into gear to keep the vehicle from moving?

Yes, it's called ready mode. You cannot start the vehicle in gear whatsoever because before exiting you need to put it in "Ready Mode" which means:

    Foot on Brake Pedal
    Shift to Neutral
    E-Brake Up
    Foot off Brake Pedal
Take Key out of Ignition (Engine Continues to Run)
    Exit the vehicle
Shut the Door (Engine Stops running after last door to shut)
Wait 10 seconds - Vehicle locks its self

The vehicle is in a remote start ready status.

If any door is opened at this point, ready mode is voided (we have to assume the e-brake was released and/or vehicle was intentionally (or unintentionally) popped into gear). At which time, you'll have to jump in and do the sequence again to put it back to remote start ready.

    VERY failsafe.

I get that the vehicle has to be place into ready mode and if its ready mode is disrupted the process has to be started over again which is good.

But in the chance i say leave my dog in the car while remote started and he somehow gets the car in gear or window is down and i reach in to grab drink and hit shift lever is there something to keep the car from jumping into traffic? like an auto shutoff if there is movement sensed prior to key in ignition?

Sensor installs aren't for everyone, so if you think you might lock a dog in the car that may bump the stick shift (not a common scenario for us), then by all means. This is how we do it. But the compustar will not be flashed or pre-programmed so you'll need to purchase the programming cable and I'm not sure if the software to flash is free or not. Things to consider. These are one-time use cost adders but if your scenario is real world for you, then we suggest doing what you're comfortable with. Trust me, NO hard feelings whatsoever. Make sure you have the resources available (i.e. schematics, understanding of automotive relays, and so on available) as some of these companies ADVERTISE that they can do this application (which they can), NOT ALL disclose "how" via documentation as they want you to come at it from a perspective that you know what you're doing. They do this to sway you into getting it professionally installed.

I tried calling N2 and got no response, can anyone help me out? I have a 2020 sr with no key fobs, the dealership told me that it was a base model so they weren't included. I purchased the regular key remote start kit and got it all hooked up and programmed but the fobs that came with the kit are not doing anything. I push the lock and unlock buttons and the light on the fob blinks blue for a few seconds and then beeps and turns red. after messing with it a bit i thought maybe I had maybe bought the wrong kit, I inspected my keys that came with the truck and noticed a little H on them (pic below). does this mean that my truck is supposed to have a fob but never came with one? Has anyone else had this problem? Did I buy the wrong kit? Is the dealership lying about not coming with key fobs? Am I losing my mind?

Got on the phone with jimmy and had the kit up and running in 15 minutes. Customer service at its finest! Glad I went with the kit instead of going to the dealership to get it done.

@N2DesignsInc is there a way to disengage the 2 headlight blinks after the truck stops running from remote starter. I could see 1 blink but the 2 seems really excessive and will probably kill my headlights faster

Just another props to Jimmy. I botched my install on my 2021 (cut the greenish wire despite my instincts telling me it was wrong) instead of the 2020+ pink wire. One call to jimmy, he left a voicemail with both color and physical location (left side of connector, 4th wire down). And it’s been working perfectly for a few weeks now.

One thing I ran into, do you have to wait for the blinking TPMS light to turn the key off? First time I tried to put it into ready mode it wouldn’t shut off on door close. Waiting for the light has worked 100%, but not sure if that’s the official answer or not. Didn’t see anything in the videos about it, but might help others.

one other hack that wasn’t in the install video - the OBD connector on the kit is identical to the OEM one, so use a small screwdriver to pop the OEM one out of the metal bracket before connecting it to the N2 harness. Then you can stick the new N2 OBD connector in the OEM bracket for a 100% clean factory looking install. Love the kit guys!

Thanks! Yes, after the final step where about to take the key out to exit, you must wait for the TPMS to start blinking to acknowledge you went into ready mode successfully...that's your car telling you that you did it right. And yes! Great tip not mentioned in the video! Good work! Enjoy!

Anyone link their remote start to google home? The link on the n2 website ask you to connect to “my car controls” and not the CL6 app that I downloaded during install. Do I create an account in that app?

what’s everyone’s experience linking it to google home?

Same app interface. Same login...pretend it's CL6 because it is...branding is the parent company.

I did link it to my Google Home. I found it more of a party trick than actually useful. The phone app is way more convenient. Google home always struggled with "Open Car Link". You have to do a super awkward pause to get it to work properly. It's too many steps and commands. I found it annoying and stopped using it.

Does the kits that require you to cut the pink wire on 2021 Tacomas void any part(s) of your factory warranty? And is there a difference between using the HKey and Regular Key kits besides regular not requiring a wire cut but only one mode of operation?

No wire cutting on Push to Start kits or Regular Key (Non HKEY base model SR). HKEY, yes, one - TPMS.

The kits aren't interchangeable, HOWEVER...on the HKEY kit (non-Canadian models), the wire does NOT have to be cut, but there is a caveat to that which is based on preference; see below:

You DON’T HAVE to cut the TPMS wire BUT if you don’t, this is the tradeoff:

Once remote started, your fob presses post start will not register, meaning you will not be able to remote stop it. So then how does the engine stop you may ask. Three ways, you will need to:

    A) Let it run the countdown timer the full course of the 15 minutes, or

    B) Stick the key into the key hole to manually unlock the vehicle and tap the brake pedal to stop it, or

    C) Stick the key into the key hole to manually unlock the vehicle and do key take over, where you get in, shut the door, put the key into the ignitions ON position (2-clicks) and tap the brake pedal once and you can drive off as if the key started the vehicle.

So what you will NOT be able to do if you don’t make the one wire snip is be able to press lock 3 times after remote starting it in order to remote stop it, nor will you be able to hit the unlock button on the fob after remote starting to get into the vehicle without sticking the key into the keyhole. This scenario ONLY applies to after remote starting, and NOT at any other time. If not remote starting, the fob works as it does now without the remote start. So we are not rendering anything useless; it’s more of the method of doing the same thing is a little less convenient but that doesn’t bother some more than the wire snip does so some folks actually just accept this trade-off to avoid the wire snip. All kits out there require this snip and our Toyota Dealership account actually do this every day no questions asked. So, it’s more of something that is up to you. It all still works fine regardless.
