I don’t know which route I want to go. My thought process right now is I’m going to keep the ADD. Then if it messes up, I’m going to weld it in the “on” position full time, which would be just like the FJ tube from what I gather

Yeah from what I gather people just have problems with that connector I forgot which one it was but I just took some Sauter and Sorret it and then I took the cover off and added some RTV to the CO to make sure nothing got in there sorry for the typos I’m using speech text

You can always just carry a hose clamp and use shift the fork over manually and use the hose clamp to hold it in place to get you home. At least that's my theory from messing with mine.

@airmax233 one of the best documented 4wd conversion on TW. LETS DO IT.

But they do make it like that on the FJ o_O. The only reason on the tacoma is for emissions and fuel economy. You haven't seen the guys that have snapped the whole tube and ADD shaft yet on here have you then...... There have been quite a few that have done so and switched to the FJ tube.

So what disengages the the front tires from turning for the non AWD models? From everything that I have found including looking up parts like wheel bearings and front hubs, some claimed the 4wd had auto locking hubs, they are identical. I haven't found an add tube listed for an FJ or the mysterious locking hubs. If there is something I missed show me I'd love to see it. Especially if there is some sort of locking hub situation I am unaware of.

The manual came with Full time 4wd and the auto came with part time(same setup as our tacomas) Hence why the fj tcase bolts straight up. The auto uses the ADD.

Four-wheel drive models equipped with the RA61F manual transmission have a full-time 4WD system; it employs a center TORSEN differential, with a locking feature and distributes the engine's power 40:60 under most driving conditions. The TORSEN unit varies power distribution as needed, based on steering angle and wheel slippage. In the "lock" position, the differential switches to 50:50 power distribution.[33]

Rear-wheel drive models were available in some markets, only with automatic transmissions, and came standard with a limited-slip rear differential.[34]

    • Five-speed A750E automatic transmission on rear-wheel drive models
    • Five-speed A750F automatic transmission with VF2A transfer case on part-time 4x4 models
    • Six-speed RA61F manual transmission with VF4B transfer case on full-time 4x4 models
