Well, that's nothing new actually .. My 95' Dodge B2500 van (Built in Canada) has the 'low washer fluid' light.
I think it's OK really. The tank on that thing holds over a gallon, so you tend to forget about filling it up.

I won't complain about the 'low washer fluid' ever ... Nothing is worse than having a bit of bug-splatter all over the windshield ... Thinking the wipers/washer is gonna clean it off ... And you only get the dying last squirt of wiper fluid, where it just spreads the bug-gut-juice all over the windshield even worse.

My truck stops running (runs out of gas?) before the light comes on. The light used to come on. The truck has stopped running (run out of gas?) 3 times. The first time I thought it was just an anomaly. The second time my adult grandson was driving when it happened. After that I always try to make sure I get gas well before I think the light is about to come on. The third time? Well, I just wasn't paying attention and it happened again. So now I never let it get below 1/4 full.

Mine came on at 'You have 21 miles left' ...
I drove it till 'You have 10 miles left' ... But after filling, I think it still had about 1 1/2 gallons left. Which ... That doesn't bother me.

Did you ever have to replace the fuel pump?
I've replaced the fuel pumps on a couple of Caravans (In tank with pump/filter/level sensor all one unit..) and while the aftermarket pumps worked just fine, the fuel level sensor/float was never quite as accurate as the original factory unit.
I'll call it 'Made In China' ...
I did have one Caravan where it stayed on 'FULL' for what seemed like forever, but when it got down to about 1/4 tank ... You better get gas, real quick.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
    As do I.
As I get used to this truck I will get to the same point as my previous - I pay attention to the gauge needle position and the gallons it took to fill. Knowing the tank capacity it's easy to determine the gallons that were left. From that and knowing my CALCULATED MPG, I get a sense of how far past "E" I can go. The idiot light becomes just a hint that I should pay attention.
No fuel gauge is absolutely accurate nor is the MPG estimate calculated (DTE) by the truck. Expecting them to be perfectly accurate is foolish.

    Right on.

Coming from bikes with wildly inaccurate or no fuel gauges, I'm just used to it.

Hard top camper...many more to add+
Low fuel warning lights ..what a blessing today...after it comes on ..20-30 miles latter the truck dies...at least you know why..?

Worst thing is to have a truck with a broken fuel gauge...I always had to make sure it was full...glad I sold the truck...pain ..not knowing...

The return button will clear the pop up.

I never refuel until about 15 miles after the countdown goes to zero. I just do math from average mpg and trip odometer like others here.
Still have 1.5 gallons left at that point.

On Land Cruisers zero miles DTE means ZERO miles. Accurate as fukc!

I think since the Tacoma is designed for us American dummies, zero miles means we can still drive another 50 miles.

That was always what I liked when I rode. Flip the valve from 'On' to 'Reserve' ... And you knew you better get gas in the next XX miles.. ;)

Yep. My current bike has a reserve light that pops on after 4gal out of 5.5 is used. I typically get 40mpg, so the math is a piece of cake. My average fillup is 4.1gal.

My sister's Ford Raptor seems to calculate all the way down. She's had it to 6 miles to empty twice when I've been with her (both times we were a bit worried, lol). And both times it took less than half a gallon from the tank size in the manual. So unless the tank is bigger than stated in the manual, it was dead on.

Thanks and so I found out.
BTW, thanks to all who put up with my stupid questions, but I really have no desire to read 300 pages of Owners Manual, when I can get the answer here in about 30 seconds.. LOL!.
Shit, there's still buttons on my rig I have no idea what they do .. (Bluetooth and phone suff .. And since I don't have a phone, I could care less..)
I found, after getting to '10 miles left' warning when I then filled up ... It took 18.5 gallons, so mine is the same as yours.
I usually never let my gas get that low, but it's a good thing to know in case it ever happens again.

Hopefully you understand that it can take less time to find the answer in the OM than it does to type up a new thread?

Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but the calculation is based upon your last tank's average MPG. You may have seen the "full" number of miles be higher after a long trip of highway driving with a higher MPG.
