Lead-acid can weep acid over the top of the battery during vigorous overlanding on rough trails. This eventually corrodes something in the engine compartment. AMG never have this problem or mess.

Why do you want a AGM battery to start the truck? How about a "starting battery"? Just asking.

I was trying to be brief without explaining.
    • My truck has stock factory battery from Interstate.
    • At 16F, my truck didn't start recently (New Mexico, at Sandia).
    • At 8F, my truck won't start and I needed a jump (Mammoth Mountains).
    • I was unable to give a jump to a stranded driver in CA in December when I tried.
    • My headlights dip when I turn on my Diode Dynamics SS3 Sport Driving fog lamps.
    • I added a full-time running cooler inside.
    • I am upgrading my headlights to dual RX350s, adding a bed top winch in the bed rail in the rear (for pulling), and a light bar (flood) which I will use long duration.
    • I am often at far remote base station sites miles from a living soul and if my truck runs down, I'm genuinely stranded as nobody would come and get me. No AAA would come.
    • I have a 270Amp aftermarket high output alternator from DC Electric which is capable of 200Amps Idle + getting a Big Three kit.
    • I needed the upgraded Alternator because I am adding separate Li ion battery bank/APU from Stealth which needs charging in my truck to run power tools/equipments for 5G base station servicing while my Truck is OFF. (Completely separate circuit from truck).
    • Above mentioned Li Battery and circuit is fully independent of my truck systems and is unable to start my truck (as it's not wired to truck starter).
    • My order for an Odyssey batt was cancelled as it's backordered and the delay was too long.
    • Given above reasons, I wanted a reliable battery.
    • (My VF Tuner who flashed my OVtune is giving a second tune removing throttle limiter + AGM tune).
    • Just wanted to know which battery the OP ended up buying so I can, as he's done the research already. Should I get Group 31 or 27F AGM?
    • Also, I bought Deo Taco's expensive electric fan too to replace clutch fan which draws a ton of Amps.

Now if you were in the upper mid-west, I would highly recommend Fleet Farm Road Runner Supreme. 72 month warranty with the first 24 months being 100% replacement and the remaining 48 months being pro-rated. I have been buying them for 30 years and had Great luck with them. They stand behind their warranty and I have only had to use it once. Bonus is the battery is $89.

No wonder you wanted to keep it simple. That's a lot going on. In my opinion, all the more reason to have all of the accessories on the lithium system, and leave the truck be but you've already crossed the threshold. Lol. I have a AGM from Autozone, warranty at 3200 stores in North and South America, no questions asked. Mine is charged only by solar but I don't have the demand you do. I will soon, but I'll just get another battery, or go lithium. Good luck Sir...
Oh...what is the voltage regulation on your truck? ECM or internal?

The Li-ion APU circuit uses it's own BMS and invertors and starters and has a RedArc controller and is also capable of charging from Shore Line power when back at base.
The High output alternator is only to keep it topped off/charging while running.
As for the Truck battery I am shopping for, (still undecided which one), I want to stick with the ECU.
I am told that AGM requires 14.4 and my VF Flasher is willing to make that change for the AGM tune if/when I get an AGM battery.
I just need a reliable battery that can handle the dual projector upgrades Leo is doing, and run the cooler and flood bar.
    Regulation is all internal atm.

I wanted to try AGM but in the end I just went standard. It was tough finding one that wasn’t retarded expensive. Plus, I had dinner at Costco for $1.50, so there’s that.

I am a few steps behind you. I have a BattleBorn 100aH battery on order that will be controlled by Victron equipment.

As for my starting battery I went with a NorthStar AGM 27F. I have a Noco Genius 10 that will be providing shore power. I plan on putting it on the starting battery once a month or so.

I have had the battery since the spring and so far so good in the desert heat. I will report back after I have all of my house powder set up and running.

Never seen them leak acid but the off-gassing and corroding of terminals happens frequently

Did you go through Garret Towne from AM Solar :)? When I was trying to do this, I had reached out to him, and he recommended exactly the same, Battle born batteries, and Victron equipment.

Negative. My close friend from college is a brand ambassador for BBB. He set me up. He has become the electrical guru. I should have a pretty sweet set up in the coming months. Victron with BT monitoring and solar. I will be running a radio (Ham), fridge, lights and winch off of it for off-grid happiness My kids want Ice Cream every now and again. Plus I’m tired of packing ice.

Do you have a build thread? Your rig sounds sweet plus I would like to read more about your alternator upgrade. I have the Tow-Package on my OR so I’m not sure if I will need to upgrade down the road.

I don't, but I will be starting one. Late, but got pictures for all, so why not.
    My kit is similar
Two 100Ah Li ion Batteries from Battle Born, a Xantrex Freedom XC 2000W inverter/80A charger, and a 60A DC/DC alternator charger from Dual Orion 12|12 30 kit.
You don't need an alternator upgrade if you have the tow pkg 130Amps alternator, but I do as I plan to increase number of battery banks from 2 to 4.
Here's a good video explaining why Li ion batteries are better over traditional,

I am familiar with all his points :) My friend has been hammering me on this for a while; it’s the reason I didn’t go with Off-Grid Engineering. Even though he makes nice kits.

I look forward to seeing your build thread! If your passing through Vegas let’s get a beer and geek out on power systems.
