Not sure how many of you ride with dedicated motorcycle boots but I just bought a pair of these and they showed up Wednesday.

    https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/tcx-x-five-plus-boots

In the past I've ridden in sneakers when I was really young and dumb then later hiking boots. Older and a little smarter but several years ago I finally made the jump to dedicated riding boots and will never go back. My first pair of TCX boots have finally thrown a tooth off one of the zippers, soles are about bald, and even though they survived my accident in 2019 the shoe goo repair to the toe area has seen better days. This new pair, especially at that sale price, seem like a reasonable replacement. I know how much all of you like a bargain so figured I'd share the info here.

I have two pairs of TCX boots, their Drifter WP offroad boots for when I'm, well, offroad. mid shin length and surprisingly comfortable and a fairly old pair of TCX X-Wave that have more of a street shoe vibe and go up to above the ankle. My work shoes are leather and cover my ankle, so I feel alright with those. I still end up wearing normal shoes more often than not, if I'm not leaving town.

edit: I love both pairs. TCX has been a great brand overall for me.

I've gotten to the point after a close call or two where my shoelaces managed to snag on my shifter peg, foot peg, or that little spur on my side stand that I will no longer ride in any type of laced shoe or boot. During a Void Rally a few years ago at one of the early bonus stops as I swung my leg over getting off my FJR one of those speed lace hooks on the hiking boots I was wearing managed to catch on the bungee type netting on the top of my tail bag I had on the pillion seat and started to pull my bike over. Thankfully it was at one of the early stops where a group of riders were still somewhat bunched up and another rider who was already off their bike was able to grab mine and help me get unhooked. Decided right then after looking at the boots the vast majority of other riders doing these events wore that it was time.

Not trying to be a safety nazi or tell anyone else what to do so I hope this doesn't come across like that. The sale price on these boots was just really good and I wanted to throw it out there in case anyone was in the market.

Those look nice. I love my Alpinestars Supertech R's but they're starting to show their age

They still have life in them. All you need is a good cobbler. I’ve used this guy before and he can add a shifter pad over the boot too if you request it:

There’s also these guys that produce awesome work:

They both have YouTube channels is you care to give them a watch. I have an appreciation for hand-craftsmanship like they do.

Thanks, what you can’t see in the photo is they are hard as a rock lol. I retired them back in 1991 or 92 I think. I did not know my wonderful late wife had kept them until I found them hidden in the back of her closet a few months ago. If I recall I got them out of Easyrider rag in 80 or 81. They where called Nastyfeet and have steel toes. I believe they where actually made by Chippewa under contract.

If it snowed around here I’d probably be building stuff like that.

I have an entry-level pair of Bilt boots that have gotten me through my first 7,500 miles.
The soles are almost bald and the material (leather?) is worn away in several areas, but they have done their job.

Even if you don’t have to rely on the right boots to protect you in a crash, simply wearing them should boost your confidence as a rider, if nothing else. That’s how I look at ATGATT.
