Glad I found Tacoma World. I have a '98 Tacoma and the driver's side seat belt webbing is shredding. To replace here in Los Angeles, they want about $500-600 and that is way too much for an old truck I drive rarely.
Where can I buy a new seat belt unit and is this something I can replace myself? I'm not a car mechanic but I can fix things :) Thank you for the replies.

Check out Safety Restore. I have not used them but plan on doing so when I get around to it. I've heard many good things and no bad that I recall.

Just posted to another thread, but:

It's literally 3 bolts to install. You shouldn't pay anyone to do it. You can find youtube videos that show what to do, or just follow the seat belt to find where the bolts are and swap it out.

Be careful with the bolt that goes into the floorboard. Those can be pretty rusty, and you should probably spray on some kind of lubricant (I used liquid wrench) and let it soak for a bit. Mine wasn't bad, but the one that I took off at the junkyard was a beast, and broke my cheap socket before I tried the liquid wrench (and a stronger socket). The junkyard seat belt didn't end up fitting, so I bought the new one above and have been very happy with the purchase.

Thank you! Very helpful @dlister70 for the advice on where to buy and install. And I agree seems simple enough but was not sure this replacement erquired removing the entire cabin interior to get to it LOL. Three bolts, some lube, and elbow grease. I think I can handle it.

@04TRDV6 0 thanks about Safety Restore. I saw that cited in another post, seems simple enough and it's about $100 for webbing replacement vs. $150 for OEM part. Both require my time but I will call the company and see what the turn around time is. I don't want this to drag out for a few months. :p Anyone else have thoughts about Safety Restore?
    Thanks again for your time.

Removed seat belt and sent to Safetyrestore.com. Bolts were frozen so used to lube, waited a while, and finally bolts finally released. Sending to the shop and hopefully get the replacement before next weekend. I will follow up. Any questions let me know.

UPDATE: Mission accomplished. Thank you for the replies. Here's a summary: overall time between removal and install, appx 1 hr. The bolts were a little challenging to remove as noted above. I shipped Sunday 1/31, USPS Priority Mail (~$14). Received 2/5, what looks like a brand new unit. I was very surprised how fast the turn around time was, especially shipping from both coasts. A very good customer service - notified through the whole process.
I recommend Safetyrestore.com, just as long as, g_d forbid, I don't get into an accident and the seat belt fails :)
