Folklore legend has it they were both made on the same assembly line back in the day.

Ford owned a good piece of Mazda at one time, I guess they're good still pardners. But that's ok, the king has some pretty good allies too, they're just not needed, TOYOTA quality is good on it's own merits without outside help.

Yes, the Frontier needs an update, but I think they cut back or completely removed production for 2020.

I know in Canada, you can't buy a 2020 Frontier. They only list the 2019 model's on the Nissan Canada website so I'm assuming they are only selling remaining 2019 stock.

In the US, they put the new engine and transmission combo (that will appear in the 2021 Frontier) in the old body (2005 - 2020) of the truck only for the 2020 model. I heard they also cut back on production as well.

I was grocery shopping this morning, as i came out a new ford ranger was parked next to my truck. I gave it a once over, and wasn't too impressed. A blind man could of set the hood gaps better, not to mention other areas. QC for the ranger exterior must of been on vacation. The only nice thing i saw it was new.

Same. I see pretty much every truck on this list but the Gladiator more often than the Ranger. It's weird, given the popularity of the larger Ford trucks and how many of the old Rangers are still rolling around (you can't throw a rock without hitting one around here).

I drove ~70 miles yesterday on fairly busy roads and saw one new Ranger. I saw a ton of Colorados, Tacomas, Frontiers, American full-sizes, Tundras, and even a few Titans.

I saw a Colorado/canyon today and the bedside seemed very high

    owner couldn’t reach from side

was it the angle where I was, or is the GMC trucks side very high?

Yes, it's high which I don't like including on my 3rd Gen Tacoma. On my 2nd gen, I could easily reach into the bed from the side of the truck but on my 3rd gen it's more difficult (I'm 6' tall). My buddies Frontier is really easy to reach into from the side as well.

That's what I don't like about the 3rd gen as compared to the 2nd gen trucks, that and the weird feeling brakes and that they made the truck larger on the outside (longer) just for looks. Other than that, my 3rd gen has been an improvement.

Yeah my first gen DCSB bed is fantastic (aside from being too short). Never owned a second gen. My 3rd gen 2018 is higher for sure, I just didnt know if the GM twins are higher or same.

Maybe I’m in the minority for thinking this, but the more of these trucks that are out there, and the more manufacturers offering better options is a GOOD thing in the auto industry. It forces companies to start doing better in certain segments [ie; SUV domination].
    It’s never a good thing when only one make/model dominates a segment. The manufacturer will get lazy and we get threads like this;
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...h-toyota-tech-compared-to-wifes-honda.704144/
Where a man cries about his wife’s CRV being better than his Tacoma

The more competition within a segment the better for the customer.

Yeah that went on with several vehicles, the Mazda Navajo was a rebadged Explorer too if memory serves me.

The GM Twins and the Ranger have those stupid high bed sides, much more user friendly with the Tacoma

Engineering or design wise what is the purpose of raising the side of the bed?

I think it's because they are overseas designed trucks so they are tall and skinny. For function you end up with a slightly deeper bed but the cost is not being able to reach over.

Fuel economy. I can't find the quote, but I seem to remember Seat Belt Mike mentioned this in one of the 3rd Gen press conference release videos. He mentioned the high bed sides and the rubber doohicky that they installed in the gap between the bed and the cab.
