    I dragged an ~8000 pound (if Google is to be believed) skid steer on bald tires out of the snow a few weeks ago. I don't know that I would call that towing per se, but the truck nonetheless did very well at yanking the stranded Bobcat free.

    I don't tow very much in general, though. If I'm carrying a lot of weight, it's usually all in the bed. My record for weight in the bed was 900 pounds worth of wooden fence posts and rolls of metal fencing. The back end sank a lot, but it was fine otherwise.

    No mods. The only thing I did was I checked my tire pressures before I left. Slow and steady wins the mpg race. Didn't try to pass anyone. I did slow down to about 45-50 going up the steeper grades but it didn't really hurt my average speed. I make this trip about once a year and this was the first time towing anything. If I remember correctly, hand calculated mpg was 14.8.

    Just make sure you have a weight-distributing hitch.
