I have the JL Audio Power Wedge 10 with the built in amp. It has plenty of power for the size of the box. I also have a Kenwood head unit (cant remember the model) and having issues getting the bass tuned. My question is should the EQ on the head unit be affecting the amp/sub? When i raise the lower end of the EQ it puts too much bass in my door speakers so i have to keep it low and then the sub doesnt hit hard. Ive tried adjusting the crossovers for the doors speakers through the head unit but it doesnt seem to help. Am i missing something? I didnt think the EQ in the HU should affect the RCAs.

You are missing some settings for sure. On the radio, You want your front crossovers around 80hz. Rears around 100hz. And sub around 80hz.

Probably verify your RCA outs are all correctly indexed before proceeding.

So I was in a hurry before and didn’t directly answer your questions.

Of course the EQ in the HU affects the RCA outputs. Conventionally, this is how you do your tuning.

So, I don’t know how you have your stereo wired so I’m making a few assumptions, and based on your description, it sounds to me like you are sending front L/R RCA output from the stereo into your powered subwoofer instead of Sub L/R.

Im using the sub RCAs which is why i didnt think the HU EQ should affect the sub.

The eq affects everything. What do you have your settings on the amp at?

Nothing crazy, but I’m happy with it (especially for the price I got it for as an installer)

    Pioneer W8400 head unit

    The rest is Kicker

    KXA800.5 amp
    KS 6.75” Components
    KS 6.75” coaxials
    CompRT 12” Loaded enclosure

    Stinger fast rings
Then about 40sq/ft of Ballistic sound deadening and another 20sq/ft of Noico closed-cell foam

They didn’t make 6x9 components when I put everything in back in 2017. If I were installing it today, I’d do the 6x9

Makes sense, thanks. @destin_meeks May I ask what type music do you listen to and are the kicker tweeters harsh or bright? I can honestly say i have never heard any of there speakers except their subs and that was years ago with the solo-baric first came out

I listen to a pretty wide range. If I put it on shuffle it’s not strange to get 90’s country then 80’s metal then 70’s rock then Taylor swift then drake then some symphony orchestra recordings.

and a lot of podcasts and audio books

I personally love the KS tweeters. They are very smooth compared to anything else I was able to listen to in that price range. They are silk-dome so they aren’t very bright or harsh like the typical titanium-dome tweeter. I can’t do harsh highs without getting a headache, even at moderate volumes. But I can crank some rock with cymbals crashing all over the place and it doesn’t bother me with the silk-dome.

That sounds good and very informative as always. I think i will definitely try to take a listen to some of their components. I dont need to spend a ton as previously but i want some good decent clarity. I would like to have the Focals up front due to ease of installation but i dont see myself spending 350$ for the fronts. Thanks again for the detail info

Don’t worry about the installation the factory wiring on these trucks is really easy to deal with.

Yeah, i think they pretty much have harnesses for everything now so i dont have to cut any factory speaker wires. Im in the research phase now so i need to make a list of the speaker and tweeter harnesses so i dont have to do any splicing. The aftermarket HU harness should be easy to find.

The hu harness is a absolute must in my opinion but the doors are no big deal I’ll post a couple pictures I’m actually finishing up my rear doors this morning.

This is the factory hardware. You just remove it and save it in case you want to return it stock for whatever reason.

This is the harness removed. I just keep it with all the stock parts. Hu speakers all that stuff.

Then your left with your factory positive and negative. When and if you wanna go back to stock just solder it back on and away you go. I’m amplified now so I’m not using any of the stock wiring anymore.
