Convince me to buy the 6112s so I can’t stop just adding them to my cart and staring at them

I have no earthly idea what 5160s even are, so in my mind....you don't need them?? Then again...upgrades are awesome for Toyotas so I am of no help whatsoever.

The 5160's are the matching rear shocks for the ride comfort and capability of the 6112's up front. Think of it like getting matching tires on all of your four wheels. Sure you can have different ones in the front compared to the rear and you will be able to drive on them but they won't compliment each other like a matching set.

I have 6112 and 5160 for 2 years. Sporty firm ride. Handles great off road with softer tires but the digressive valving sucks with heavy, stiff E load tires unless you’re always airing down.

Depending on the price you’re paying, I would spend a little more and get FOX 2.5 fronts and 2.0 w/ ressie rears if I had to do it again.

Maybe....but being from the North, the Fox shocks are very well known for rusting out pretty fast and would need to be rebuilt in about 2 years. The 6112's will hold up way better.

6112 are aluminum and FOX steel?

Ive had no issues with corrosion. I soaked them with fluid film on day 1. They’re ugly from dust and road film but zero rust.

Do a search and yoi will find tons of threads and complaints about Fox Shocks rusting out. Unless you live in AZ, I wouldn't invest in the those. If you do a search on 6112 rusting out.....you won't find one.

That is the answer that I was fearing, because financially cannot afford fox shocks but then again buy once cry once aaaaaaaand Credit cards smh. I do not want the stiff feeling on trails, I want it to feel like the old Range Rover air suspension that always failed, but felt amazing when it did work

What kind of tires do you have? My set up was awesome with soft sidewall C load duratracs, the fast you go the smoother it got. But I have E load toyos now and it’s rough.

I will just leave this hear for you to see. It is an apples to apples comparison each with a tacoma from a major shock seller. They go over King, Fox, OME and the bilstein 6112. This is a great video to give you the education you need to make your decision.

2.5yrs running 6112 up front, 5100 in back. TRD sport leafs with AAL in a pre runner access cab with snugtop. fronts set to second from tallest, iirc, to sit level. Was stock TRD OR before.

fronts were stiff AF compared to the oem around town and over pot holes for the first year but has since mellowed out a lot. freeway handling was superb from the first drive. rear end feels planted. glad I was talked into the 5100 in the back.

do the uca’s as well. although you may be able to squeeze out an alignment with stock, a proper set will make it handle like a new truck.

do it. zero regrets for a pavement pounding surfmobile.

Had both, 5100 rears felt the same as the 5160s I installed after. Not a bad choice for on road use, saves a few bucks too.

Pull the trigger on the 6112's. Make sure the dealer can set them up for you the way you want them, unless you can do it yourself safely. For me, that means groove 2 & 3.
6112's are a great choice for the fronts. They were a big improvement over the 2017 stock TRD OR Bilstein coilovers, particularly when running at speed on rough unpaved and rutted roads. I run 90% on unpaved and very bad pavement, and they are the answer for this truck. After about 2000 miles they are breaking in and becoming even more comfortable and supple.
As for the rears, I am not satisfied yet. I had replaced the stocks with 5100's, and then 5160s after reading a lot of positive reviews on them. I don't think that they are very good. Especially in terms of rebound, after passing through any kind of dip or drainage swale they give a harsh uncomfortable lurch when they fully extend.
I have no interest in stiffening my springs or adding airbags etc. In the past this has always made things worse, generally harsher and less controllable with light loads. I often ride with the bed empty.
Sometimes I need to carry some real load in the bed; one day this week with over 1000lbs of concrete. That means pumping up the tires and taking it patiently slow & gently. I'm used to that, it's a truck.
I might end up with 8112's or Fox 2.5's, though I hate spending that kind of money for rear shocks.
