It's both. Richmond is payed off, and Chevron will let pumps leak product for 6~18 months, waiting on a shutdown.

Last week I test drove and almost pulled the trigger on 2021 Venza. Same hybrid system as rav4. But at the end of the day it was just a little to tight in size for us. We currently have a highlander and my concern is gas prices shooting up with the new administration. The venza was nice enough with plenty of get up and go. Just for shit and giggles I poked around at highlander hybrids and could not justify the expense in msrp and the math does not compute with fuel savings. I am a deplorable so my concern is not the environment but my future retirement in 10 years. I know I’m being selfish thinking of myself first so don’t beat me up too much I’m just being honest. So would Toyota put the highlander hybrid system in the Tacoma since the work has been done already ala ridgeland?

The F150 3.5L hybrid gains an extra 4mpg.

    Assuming $2/gal gas, thats a savings of around $200 for a 10K mi/yr.

Not quite worth if for a more expensive truck and more parts to break. Maybe for someone thats constantly on the road it might make financial sense.

I drive my neighbors P85 when he's away for an extended time. I drive a little Civic for work and talk about night and day. It is fun to have the power on the highway when I need to pass though.

We’ve vacationed in Hawaii probably 20-30 times over the last 15 years or so and it’s not very common to see solar on homes. I’ve always wondered why given how expensive the electricity is. A few years ago I was talking with a local there and they said getting the permits is super hard, sometimes almost impossible. Seems really odd to me that would be the case and I don’t know if that’s actually true (maybe some of the Hawaiians on here can say one way or another) but most places around the mainland can make solar pay for itself within the life of the system and our rates are a fraction of Hawaii’s rates.

this is my biggest issue right now. I think about finding a way to charge when going through some of the back country towns I go through to get to my cabin, some don’t even have gas stations and the nearest town that does is 100+ miles away. I can’t imagine these places all of a sudden putting in charging stations, or even having the infrastructure to support that if they wanted to.

I have been extremely tempted with some of the EV trucks coming out. Almost put a deposit in the Badger (glad I didn’t, we see how that turned out) and have been tempted many times with the Rivian SUV. The Cybertruck looks like ass so I’ll leave it to the suckers. :D I just don’t think in today’s world and where I like to/need to go I could make an all electric work for me. Some of the Hybrids are interesting, really looking forward to see what Toyota does with the Tundra hybrid.

Its funny everyone is applying today's world to why electric vehicles fully won't work. The thing is it won't be today's world. Thats like saying in 1990...on cell phones, I'll never want a cell phone, you can't even get reception when I'm out in the woods, what's the point. Flash to 2021, now we have cell towers everywhere and 5g on the way. If there's a will, there's a way.

A lot of you guys are like my mom. It took her over 25 years to get a microwave, didn't get a "cordless home phone" until they were out for 10 years, and still barely uses a cell phone today. You should hear her excuses lol.

Solid state batteries may become reality (found in production vehicles), in 5 years. Promising 15 minute +60% charges. Until then hybrid is the best solution for those of us who live with range angst.

If they come out with a total electric Tacoma , the first mod will be installing a generator to extend the range. I can see the threads now.

I’ve owned hybrids going on 10 years, never a problem. The 08 Lexus RX400h has almost 150k miles. Wife’s 14 Prius has almost 100k and we had an 07 and 08 before that. The 07 went over 300k before we lost track of it after selling. The person saying batteries cost 5 to 6 thousand is sadly misinformed. That was misinformation put forth by oil lobbyists. Toyota’s hybrid technology is well over 25 years old now and is highly refined. There is an aftermarket and plentiful supply of new, used and reconditioned parts.

we had a single cell go bad in the 07 Prius at 260k miles. Those single cells sell for about 100 dollars and if you are halfway good with a wrench you can do this at home. Complete Salvage yard batteries with a guarantee are in the 5 to 700 dollar range. Parts prices are going down not up. As always if you were dumb enough to buy a replacement from the dealership they’d screw you and smile. Be smart shop around there are YouTube videos galore to walk you through it. I am still amazed at the resistance of some people towards this and other technology. Thankfully they are a minority.

looking at it from a performance standpoint I just love to floor that Lexus and experience almost 300 ft pounds of torque making objects in the rear view mirror disappear while at the same time getting 26mpg. Not bad for a 4 door SUV.

I’m not saying that I would not bite on a fully electric vehicle in the future but cost has to come way down on both ends of the spectrum. I do not steer away from technology and progress in some things. But electronics in let say American made vehicles. What is the first thing that shits the bed? You take to your trusted wrench and they change this sensor and that sensor and still they don’t solve the problem. Hopefully Toyota will do good and keep blowing away the competition with reliability!

Whats interesting is that you can get a used Model S for under $45k. They were $80-90k new. Shop around and some have lifetime free Supercharging.
