Wait if you can. Don’t buy now. Depending on where you live there’s not a big difference in price between new and used. Right now Tacoma’s are in high demand and low availability.

It's great when I'm out of service. It's just me and the xm radio.

Look at buying new but keep your eyes out on a used for a good price.

To each their own. I surprisingly, (and I'm probably the minority here) like the built-in 4g hotspot. I do a lot of camping at state parks in middle-of-no-where Texas and there's almost never phone service. There have been a few emergency instances where I needed to contact someone and had no phone service but the truck had full bars (and 2 gigs free a month) and saved my butt. Whatever antenna they have on these trucks, it's packing some serious power. The SOS feature will actually work with the car off as well, and I'm sure it would perform in an emergency.

I don't think I would buy any year 3rd gen. I am unimpressed with the 3rd gen at the moment. Maybe if Toyota offered an access cab V6 with the utility package I might be more interested in considering a 3rd gen. I don't think the 3rd gen is a bad truck, I just can't find a reason why I would buy one.

Ive had a 2016'18'19 and 20 tacoma. If you want all the goodies especially apple car play the 2020 was awesome. Otherwise i see minimal differences. I know the 16 had a manual rear glass and of course the 20 has the power driver seat. but comes down to how you are. I like the 2016 the most. It was a offroad and was the most simplistic for me or at least it felt that way. all these trucks ive put over 20k on so i feel like i can justify a good opinion !

Im sure its already been stated, but there are other notable differences worth considering - the new 8" touchscreen and interface are markedly better, CarPlay/Android Auto, TSS, power drivers seat, better looking front grille, thicker glass for better insulation. Not to mention the resale on used Tacomas is so high, just buy new and configure how you want it.

Anyone who says "i don't want all these safety gizmo's and electronic what nots" don't listen to them - they are possibly old and/or out of touch. The TSS is a great suite of features and Apple CarPlay is fantastic. Also not sure if this is on earlier models, but my '20 has auto high beams too. Get the '20 and let the anticipation begin!

I like my adaptive cruise control. I use it a good amount when on the highway and I have a manual. I turned off lane departure as it was annoying but other than that everything has been great with my 2020.

Yep! It comes with 2 gigs for a few months but you can add it to your AT&T unlimited plan for $10/month. I suppose the main draw is for families/kids during trips, but the few times I needed it, it has worked great. I'm guessing that it uses the same antenna/system as the connected services, which would explain why it gets great coverage.

I’d get at least a 2018 or newer to be sure and have the added safety systems (TSS, radar cruise, etc.). Like others here, because of the high used resale value, I would probably buy new.

You nailed it. I remember when anti-lock brakes hit the market. People rushed to buy the previous year model without them cause they didn’t want those nanny braking systems. :D Same with shoulder seat belts.

Yeah, there are cons (freedom, privacy, etc.), but this kind of stuff saves lives. Similarly, my grandpa's Ford saved his life when it sensed he was having heart complications and pulled him safely to the side of the road.

2020 since it's the newest with the most year over year factory tweaks. In theory, it has the most time left on the factory warranty barring a high mileage daily driver.

It's great, really. For sure, I'm willing to pay each month to? Go camping with WiFi. Yes, Let's do this! I'm trading in my truck because my phone 4g isn't enough. Hello OnStar, Siri, Alexis, are you listening?

My '20 has it too. I never used it during the trial period so I can't speak to how it does or doesn't work. For the record, the reason I never used it wasn't because I'm opposed to surfing TW while 4 Wheeling but mainly because I have enough other electronic gizmo's beeping or demanding my attention LOL!
