Thats a pretty sweet idea. I was thinking of using some matte clearbra I had for a similar exercise, but you went full send

we went to a place to ask about clear bra and they told me it was going to be super expensive, which i found strange to be honest - so we decided to just spray it. i had sprayed my second gen before this and figured we would just go for it....... plus already had the paint - i like that it keeps it 'stock looking'

d.shaw, my tacoma sport reflects lots of light from the hood, do you have more information on how to spray the hood?

i lined up some tape (i left the sides with a stripe) then removed it, and used a flat clear wheel paint, i used a 2-3000 grit wet sand at the end, its not perfect i think had i wet sanded between the couple coats it would have been better - but you can't tell unless you are standing there looking for the imperfections. i think a clear flat wrap would be a better surface, or a paint shop.

on my second gen i left the hood on the truck and just went for it, and sanded with the 2-3000 grit wet sand - again not perfect but is very effective in reducing the glare and cost like $10

Thanks! Yeah, I'm not worried about perfection...its gonna get scratched. I've also looked at some 3M wrap, haven't made up my mind.
Are those pop-up tents on the top of those trucks in the last photo?

not sure if my directions were clear, i lined up some tape and then took the hood off, was easier to spray it that way (than leaving it on the truck like i did with my 2nd gen)

Your instructions were clear. The glare off the purely ornamental scoop is quite bad at times (especially at 45-46 degrees latitude in the winter), and is the only thing about a toyota truck I have ever disliked. I was going to ask if you liked those tents, but since you have two of them, I assume you do.

Do you think having the cab rack makes a significant difference in deflecting wind over the the front edge of the GFC? I know it's not meant to reduce gas mileage...maybe a better question is, have you run either truck without one of the wind deflectors and noticed a more drag when a strong headwind is present?

@Kerbouchard! i think (only recently run the drifter with a rack) it helps reduce a bit of wind noise and help's in head wind. on the drifter we recently spent 1.5 hrs into a head wind and kept 'normal' mpg (12) until the wind started at like a 45* and it dropped to 9.... on the gfc i think it has some effect in reducing some wind noise (although the rack might also create some noise) and helps in headwinds, i have flirted with the idea of mounting a second deflector up there. the gfc one is also big enough to actually carry something up there, we usually mount the maxtrax there.

we run martin offroad racks on both https://martinor.com/shop

most definitely makes a difference in wind noise (and most definitely does not completely eliminate wind noise - we've added sound deadening to help). i think the effect on MPG is noticeable, but perhaps only because i get such poor mileage to begin with :) very happy with the quality and design of the rack.
