Greetings from the Nashville area. New member here. I did something VERY foolish last week and let some bad gas (about 1/2 gallon) find its way into my Tacoma. It quickly stalled and wouldn't restart. I thought I knew generally where the fuel filter is located, but also knew I couldn't change that, drain the fuel tank, etc. by myself. Had it towed to a local shop right down the road. Never used them before, but they're local and have been there a long time. Skipping over a lot of irrelevant info, I was told the filter was connected to the fuel pump by a rod and that the fuel filter couldn't be changed by itself . . . had to change them both. The bill will be HUGE. Am I being scammed? I expected to pay for new plugs, the fuel filter and new gas after draining the tank . . . plus labor. The price I've been quoted is close to $900! Am I being screwed? Thanks for any info. you can give me.

    Define "Bad Gas".

You may be able to get by with diluting the bad gas with many gallons of good gas.

At worst only need to dump what is in the tank and refill with "Good Gas". And maybe flush the fuel lines out.

The filter is just a sock filter and it can be replaced / cleaned separately if need be.

I show prices for the Pump / Sender Assembly ( includes a filter ):

    Pump & Sender Assy, Fuel 2.7L Eng 77020-04071 ~ $679.75

In that case I would dilute it and run it or drain it and fill with fresh gasoline.

I don't think a new filter will fix this unless you dumped a 1/2 gallon of dirt into the tank. The garage is ripping you off.
